A fin or cam 31 is secured to the outer compartment door as, for instance the door 17 shown in Fig. 6, and a similar fin or cam member 32 is secured to'the single inner door 15. The bracket 33 is secured to the side of the cabinet, as shown in Fig 7, so that the arm or lever 34, which is pivoted to the bracket at 35, and which bears the target 30 at one end thereof, will be in suitable position to be operated by the

31 and 32. The pivoted arm 34 is provided at its outer end with a lateral extension 36 which is long enough to extend within the path of the cam 31. The opposite end or the arm 34 is similarly provided with an extension 37, which, as shown in the particular embodiment illustrated in Fig. 7, may consist of an extension of the target 30, which is secured to the end of the arm 34. The extension 37 projects into the path of the 'cam 32. The bracket 33 is provided with a lateral extendingportion 38 which is suitably slotted to allow swinging of the arm 34 which projects through the slot. The outer end of the arm is provided with a lug 39 and a spring 40 connects the lateral ex tension 38 and the lug 39 so as to give the indicating arm 34 a snap action after it is once pushed slightly past the central or neutral position. I shall now describe the gravity lock con trol which I prefer to employ with this type of service door. shall describe the lock and control employed and illustrated spe cifically with respect to the compartment 7.

A suitable spring latch 41 is secured to the inside of the door 17 adjacent the margin thereof so that the projecting bolt 42, which is provided with an inclined surface on its inner face, may engage the edge of the cabinet and form a catch to prevent the door 17 from opening after the spring bolt 42 is moved into place, as shown in Fig. 5.

The top of the bolt 42 is providedwith a notch 43 and the front part of the boltjs provided with an inclined face 44. A. vertical controlling bar 45 is mounted on the edge 46 of the cabinet 1, being loosely secured to this edge by means of headed pins 47 and 48, which pass through the

49 and 50 in the bar itself. The upper end of the controlling bar 45 is provided with a detent 51 for engaging the notch 43 in the top of the bolt 42. The bottom of the bar 45 is provided with a foot or extension 52, which Lean-cos partment, and a counterbalance extension 57 for holding the pan 53 normally in the level position. When an article is deposited in the pan 53', the pan tilts downward until it engages the projection 58 in the bottom 59 of the compartment. The controlling bar 45 normally resting upon the edge of the pan, loses its support and drops downward, causing the detent 51 to engagethe notch 43 in the bolt 42. lit will then be impossible to withdraw the bolt 42 and the compartment 7 is inaccessible from the outside. As soon as the housewife or maid opens the inner door 15 and removes the article from the pan 53, the counter balance 57 will raise the controlling bar 45 and release the bolt 42 so that the same may be withdrawn and the door opened to permit access to the compartment 7.

The signaling mechanism operates in conjunction with the above as follows 'When the parts are in the position shown in Fig. 6, theouter door 17 may be opened by the purveyor to place a package within the compartment. As the door 17 is opened,

the cam 31 engages the projection 36 and throws the arm downward past the center point, where it remains under. the influence of the spring 40 holdingthe target 30 in indicating position befbre the aperture or sight opening 29. 'As the package is deposited in the pan 53, the same moves downward overbalancing the weight 57. The controlling bar 45 drops at the same time, since it loses its support from the rim of the pan 53. When the door 17 is closed by the purveyor, the bolt 42 which is spring pressed, noses under the .detent 51 raising the same to the point where it will drop into the notch 43 and will again prevent withdrawal of the bolt 42.

The upper compartment door 16 (see Fig. 1) is provided with a combination lock which is preferably not provided with gravity control.

. The upper compartment 6 may be reserved for such uses as handling laundry. The

laundry is placed in the compartment (Hey the housewife and the driver being provided with the combination of the lock, may re-' move the articles and when the work on them has been finished. they are returned in the same manner. The occupant of the premises is apprised of the removal of the articles to be laundered by operationot the indicator and as the indicator will be set back to the non-indicating position as soon as the inner door 15 is opened, the occupant will again be apprised of the.return of the laundered articles by" setting ofthe proper indicator. The small compartments may be each provided with a separate indicator if so desired.

I have shown the cabinet 1 as constructed of sheet metal. It is to be understood that the frame part of the door may also be made 'between the inside and the outside sheets of metal.

I do not desire to be limited to the precise details of construction that I have described and illustratedgbut intend that the appended claims be construed with all due liberality in view of the prior art.

\Vhat I claim is: I

1. The combination with a compartment having an opening therein of a door for closing said opening. means including a lock bolt normally operable from outside said compartment for controlling the opening of said door, and article controlled means with in said compartment. for interlocking with said bolt to prevent withdrawal of said bolt to unlocking position when an article is placed within said compartment.

2. The combination with a compartment having an opening therein of a door for closing said opening. means including a lock bolt normally movable to and from locking position for controlling the opening of said door, and article controlled means within said compartment for interlocking with said bolt to prevent. movement of said bolt to unlocking position.

3. The combination with a compartment having an entrance of a door for closing said entrance. a lock for said door having a bolt normally movable to and from locking /position, a. movable article support within said compartment and a detent controlled by said movable support for locking said bolt in locking position when an article is placed on said support.

4. The combination with a compartment having an entrance of a door for closing said entrance, a lock for said door normallv operable fromoutside said compartment for controlling the opening of said door. a movable article support within said compartment. and means controlled by said support for locking said bolt in locking position when an article is placed on said support.

5. In combination, a compartment. a door for said compartment, a lock for said door.

said lock having a spring bolt, a detent for engaging said bolt, to prevent withdrawal of the same, a movable support controlling said detent, means for holding said support in normal position, said support being moved from normal position by deposit of an article thereupon to cause said detent to engage said bolt.

6. In combination, a compartment, a door on each side of said compartment, one of said doors having a spring latch, said latch having a bolt for holding the door closed, a. pan in the bottom of said compartment, a connection between said pan and said bolt to prevent withdrawal of said bolt, when an article is deposited in said pan.

7. In combination, a compartment, doors on opposite sides of said compartment, a lock for one of said doors, a spring bolt for said lock, said bolt having a notch therein, avertical rod having a detent for engaging said notch, and a movable support for controlling said vertical rod.

S. In combination, a compartment, having a door on each side thereof, a lock for one of said doors, said lock having a spring bolt for holding the door closed, a controlling ba'r having means for engaging said bolt and a pivoted pan in the bottom of said compartment for controlling said bar to hold the bolt against withdrawal.

9. In combination, a compartment having doors on opposite sides thereof, a lock for one of said doors, a. bolt for said lock, said bolt having a recess therein, a controlling rod having a portion forengaging said recess to prevent withdrawal of said bolt, and i a pivoted pan for controlling said rod.

10. In combination, a compartment, a door for said compartment, a lock for said door, said lock having a bolt. with a recess therein, a vertical rod mounted at the edge door, said lock having a spring bolt, a pivoted pan in the bottom of said compartment, a counterbalance weight for said pan, a detent for engaging said bolt to hold same against withdrawal, said detent being controlled by the position of said pan.

12. In combination, a service cabinet having doors on opposite sides thereof, a pivoted pan in the bottom of said cabinet, lockin means for one of said doors, and interloc ing means for said locking means to hold the same against release, said interlocking means being controlled by said pan.

13. In combination a hollow cabinet having door openings, said cabinet havin inturned flanges about said openings, oors for closing said openings, said doors being hinged at the edges of the openings,a spring door for said compartment, a lock for said bolt for each door, said bolt engaging behind the flange to hold the door closed, a vertical latch bar, said latch bar and bolt having inter-engaging parts to hold the bolt against withdrawal when the latch bar engages the same, and means for guiding said vertical latch bar along the inturned flange.

14:. In combination a hollow cabinet having door openings, said cabinet having inturned flanges about said openings, doors for closing said openings, said doors being hinged ad aQent the edges of the openings, a spring latch for each door, said spring latch having a boltfor projecting behind the flange to hold the door closed, pins on the rear side of said flange, a vertical latch bar lying against said flange and having slots which fitover said pins, said latch bar and bolt having interengaging parts to hold the bolt against withdrawal when the latch bar engages the same. i

15. In combination a hollow cabinet having door openings, said cabinet having inturned flanges about said openings, doors for closing said openings, said doors being hinged adjacent said openings, a spring latch for each door, said spring latch having a bolt engaging behind the flange to hold the door closed, a vertical latch bar, said latch bar and bolt having inter-engaging parts to hold the bolt against withdrawal when the latch bar engages the same and a support pivoted to the bottom of the cabinet, said support having means for holding the latch bar in raised position.

16. In combination a hollow cabinet having door openings, said cabinet having inturned flanges about said openings, doors for closing said openings, said doors being hinged at the sides of said openings, a spring latch for each door, said spring latch having a bolt engaging behind the flange to hold the door closed, a vertical latch bar slidable along said flange, said latch bar and bolt having inter-engaging parts to hold the bolt against withdrawal when the latch bar engages the bolt, a pan pivoted upon the bottom of the cabinet near one side thereof, and a weight for counterbalancing the pan and latch bar, said latch bar having its end overlying the edge of the pan.
