cuNKm CLAMP AND nus CLEANER.
, APPLICATION FILED FEB-15| |913. 1,321,246. Patented Nov. 11, 1919.
MAXIMILIAN ROTH, OF CHICAGO,

CLINKER-CLAMP AND ELITE-CLEANER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 11, 1919.
Application filed February 16, 1918. Serial No. 217,495.
To all 'whom t 'may concern Be it known that I, MAXIMILIAN ROTH, citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in @linker-Clamps and Flue- Cleaners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention has for its object to provide a device adapted for performing various functions in and about boilers and boiler furnaces, particularly to remove clinkers from boiler and other furnaces and cleaning the flues of boilers and hot air and chimney lues.
The particular object of the invention is to provide a very simple, cheap and efficient dedevice adapted to the above purposes, and consists in the features of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and particularly claimed.
'In the accompanying drawings illustrating suitable embodiment of the invention:
Figure lis a central vertical longitudinal section of a device for removing clinkers from furnaces constructed in accordance with the invention.
Fig. -2 is a fragmentary detail view in elevation of one end of said device showing the flue-cleaning brush engaged therein adapting the device for cleaning flues.
Fig. --3 is a detail section on the line 3-3 of Fig. -1-.
Referring now to said drawings, Fig. lshows a device consisting of a rod A equipped at one end with a handle B, and at its other end with a flat jaw C. The latter is provided with a guide rod D extending parallel with the rod A, and which engages in an opening in the companion or opposed jaw E mounted at one end of a tube F longitudinally movable on'the rod A, and which, when said jaws C and E are separated, abuts at one end against the handle B. The lower ends of the jaws C and E are preferably bent to converge slightly toward each other, as shown at G. The said device is adapted for engaging and removing clinkers by, for eX- ample, engaging the handle B in the left hand and operating the tube F with the right hand to engage clinkers between the jaws C and E and lift the same out of the furnace. In this operation it will be obvious that the tube F is moved longitudinally on the rod A to cause the jaw E to approach thevj aw C.
.As shown in Fig. 2 a brush H may be engaged between the jaws C and E, the bristles thereof projecting from the sides and ends of said jaw, and being adapted to clean iues through which the jaws are passed in a well-known manner. rlhe brush H consists of a body portion comprising` two pieces I of channel bar set flange out with respect to each other, and between which the bristles are engaged; said channel bar members being suitably riveted or otherwise secured together. The jaws are received in the channeled faces of the channel bar members I, and by reason of the convergence of the lower ends of the jaws C and E toward each other are held in place against dropping out from between those aws during the fluecleaning operation.
l/Vhile I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention in the accompanying drawings, it will be understood, of course, that the same may be changed and varied in details of construction without departing from the invention as .defined in the appended claim.
I claim as my invention:
A device of the kind specified comprising a rod terminating at one end in a handle, a jaw extending transversely to said rod rigidly secured between its ends to the other end of said rod, a tube of less length than said rod longitudinally movable on the latter, a jaw rigidly mounted between its ends on the outer end of said tube in'opposed relation to the first named jaw, said jaws adapted to be moved toward and from each other to engage articles therebetween and release the same, a guide rodsecured to the first-named jaw at the end thereof opposite that adapted to engageclinkers and eXtending parallel with said rod and tube and pass-V ing through the jaw at the end vof the latter for preventing relative rotation of said jaws, and a stop at the end of said guide rod for limiting the relative separation of said jaw.
MAXIMILIAN ROTH.
