Specification of Letters Patent.
ELECTRICAL WATER-HEATER.
Patented Nov.4', 1919.
k Application filed April 5, 1919. Serial No. 287,744.
To all whom 2'25 may concern Be it known that I, FREDERICK TAYLOR, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Kakabeka Falls, Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electrical ater- Heaters; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention relates to improvements in electrical water heaters and has for its object the provision of an improved construction of this character operating to heat the water by being submerged therein, which is of simple construction, efficient in operation and capable of economical manufacture. The other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter de scribed in the claim.
The invention is best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure l is a perspective view showing a heater embodying the invention in the position as used;
.;'Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of said heater; and,
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view illustrating one of two binding post arrangements employed in the construction.
The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawings comprises two concentric tubes l and 5 made of insulating material such as hard rubber, the inner tube 5 being somewhat smaller in diameter and shorter in length than the outer tube l. A heating coil 6 of resistance wire is coiled about the inner tube 5 and within the outer tube 4:, the ends of said heating coil being electrically secured to suitable binding posts 7 arranged on the upper side and at each end of the inner tube 5. The heating coil 6 is supplied with current through the in sulated wires 8 extending through suitable openings 9 in the upper side of the tube 4;. After passing through the openings 9 the supply wires 8 are brought together centrally above the outer tube 4 and are passed through the central opening, being a perforated plate 10, said wires being then water has been sufliciently heated the heating element is removed by lifting the same by means of the wires 8, said wires consisting of a symmetrically arranged suspension element for the purpose. The specificform and arrangement of parts is simple in construction, efficient in operation and capable of economical manufacture.
'While I have illustrated and described,
the preferred form of construction for car;-
rying outmy invention this is capable of variations and modifications without de-'v parting from the spirit of the invention. I therefore do not wish to be limited to the precise form and arrangement of parts disclosed, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: I
A water heater comprising two'conce'n-.
tric tubes of insulating material open at both ends and the mner tube being some what shorter than the outer tube; binding posts arranged on the upper side of said inner tube at the opposite ends thereof; a heating coil coiled around said inner tube and within said outer tube. the ends of said heating coil being connected to said binding posts and there being openings in the top of said outer tube adjacent said binding posts; and supply wires secured to said bind- .ing posts and extended through said open ings.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
FRED. TAYLOR.
