Description

J. COCHRAN.
Improvement in'Heating-Stoves.
N0. 132,055. I Patented0ct.8,1872.
WITNESSES. INVENTOR.
UNITED STATEs PATENT OEEIoE.
JUsTIN COOHRAN, oE MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
IMPROVEMENT IN HEATlNG-STOVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 132,055, dated October 8, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JUSTIN OOGHRAN, of Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Heating Apparatus and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and 'to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
The figure of the drawing is a representation of a vertical section of my invention.
My invention has relation to a heating apparatus. and consists in the novel arrangement of flues for receiving cold air, allowing it to become heated, and thence conductingit to apartments to be warmed, substantially as hereinafter described.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, A represents a cylindrical stove-body having a door, A smoke-escape B, and register A. G designates a serpentine or bent pipe passing upward through the floor, thence into and through the stove, and finally out at one side near the top. This pipe is designed to receive cold air from below the-floor. As soon as the fire is started the air in said pipe becomes heated and rarefies, and thereby creates a strong current, which may be conducted to distant apartments to warm them. The arrangement of the pipe within the stove-body tends to expand the flame and to cause its heat thereby to be more widely difi'used. E and F represent dampers to regulate the flow of air. G designates an elbow connected with the lower part of the pipe 0 and provided with a damper, I. The object of this pipe is to take the cold air from a room in the morning when the fire is started, so as to facilitate the heating of the room. The top section or drum 0 of the pipe 0 is of larger dimension than the lower part, and, runnin gin a horizontal direction, is connected with the section a projecting from the stove by means of a loop, b, on the latter, catching a stud, b, on the former, as shown. This loop is to be raised when it is desired to remove the serpentine pipe.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The stove A, consisting of the interior serpentine pipe 0 passing upward through the floor, and having at its upper end the drum 0, regulators E and F, elbow Gr provided with the damper H, the whole constructed and arranged in the manner as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
JUSTIN OOCHRAN.
Witnesses GEO. H. KEITH, Rosco HILTON.
