FLOOR AND C EILING PLATE FOR PIPES.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD L. DELANY,
a citizen of the United States, residing'in the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of'New York, have invented a certain new and use-- "imanipulation, and when so placed is locked against removal. This object is accomplished by means of my invent-ion wherein a two part plate is employed with the respective parts secured by means of springs and joints so that the springs cause the joints to interlock.
Features of the invention other than those adverted to will be apparent from the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.
The drawings show the preferred, practical embodiment of the invention, but the form shown is to be considered as, typical only of various specific forms in which the invention may be given expression.

The improved plate 1 may be placed on a floor 2 or a ceiling where the pipe 3 enters or leaves. The plate is composed of two members 1 and 5 which may be given any suitable form, and are so shaped at the inner edges as to snugly encircle a pipe, or substantially so, when in use, as shown in Fig. 1. These parts, which maybe made more or less ornamental, are provided with an inner collar 6 from which extend spring ears or lugs 7 which are located near the respective latches 8 and 9 of the parts 4; and 5. As many ears 7 may be employed as desired, although in the preferred embodiment of my invention only two are used on each member and are preferably positioned close together as shown. It is desirable that they be placed near an end of each part and not at or near the center for the reason which will appear below.

Each of the members 4 and 5 is provided with a socket 10, positioned on the concealed face of the plate and adapted to receive a latch. The latches are preferably of the construction described. Latch 8 is set off slightly so as to'properly register with its socket as shown at 11, and then is fiat, andpreferably slightly tapering, and is so positioned as to lie parallel to the main portionof the plate, said latch being provided with two notcheslQ and 13 on its exterior edge. The notch 12 is so placed and shaped that the edge 14 maybe struck from this notch as a center so'that when the end of the latch 8 is inserted in the socketlO, this socket may be swung on the notch as a center without lost motion, until the latch 9 engages its socket 10. The latch 9 is offset at 15 and provided with one notch 16 and it is preferably tapered so as to readily engage its socket 10 and fit easily within the same. After the member 5 has been swung radially on the notch 12 as a center and the latch 9 brought into proper engagement with its socket 10, the two parts 4L and 5 are shoved directly together until the notches l3 and 1'5 are opposite their places in the sockets 10. Then the springs 7 press against the pipe 3 and automatically, and without further manual movement force these notches laterally into engagement with the sockets, whereby the latches and sockets are positively engaged and the plate is held firmly and correctly in position. A reverse movement unlocks and separates the parts of the plate. Once the parts have been centered about the pipe, as described, the plate is put in position with the tongues 7 between the pipe and fioor or ceiling, as the case may be. This structure holds the parts in place with a positive engagement which will not'become loose or detached while in service and yet may be readily removed,
