To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE D. CASE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Horseheads, in the county of Chemung, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sectional Concrete Conduits, ofwhich the following tinuous conveying body, the various sectionsthereof being so connected thatexpansion and contraction of the same is readily accommodated.
My invention further contemplates the provision of a conduit formed in sections which will permit expansion and 'contraction of the sections under changes in temperature whereby to prevent fracture of the sections.
My invention still further contemplates the provision of a sectionalized conduit which may be easily packed for shipment,
is simple in construction, cheap to manufacture and may be quickly and'easily repaired when occasion requires.
Other objects and advantages to be derived from the use of my improved sectionalized conduit-will appear from the follow.- ing detailed description and the claims, taken with an inspection of the accompanying drawing, in which:

The portions a and b are preferably U- shaped in configuration forming a substantially rectangular body when connected. The adjoining marginal edges of the portions a and b are connected by a tongue and groove as indicated at 1 and 2, the tongue and groove connection of one side of theplication of the sections when set up. Thev portions a and b may be reinforced by the usual metallic elements indicated by dotted lines and'designated 3 and 4.
In connecting adjoining ends of adjacent sections I provide tapered annular extensions 5 and 6 on the portions a and b, said extensions engaging in complemental annular recesses 7 and 8 formed in the adjoining end of the adjacent section.
In connecting the portions a and b or the portionsfof my modified forms and in connecting the adjacent sections a suitable cement may be employed. It willbe seen that the manner of connecting the adjoining ends of adjacent sections permit expansion and contraction of the sections under changes in temperature, either radially or longitudinally. The tongue and groove connections between the portions (1 and I) permits relative longitudinal expansion of the portions as well as radial expansion thereof.
In the modifications shown in Figs. 4, 5 and 1 6, I provide the lower portion a with a progage in a complemental groove formed in the portlon c. a
The portions 0 and d are provided with a metal reinforcement extending into the said tongues 10 and 11. The corners 14 of my invention are heavier and thicker thus providing a'strong supporting means to receive the thrust of any weight bearing thereon. My reinforcing means comprises a plurality of Ushaped members 16 connected by transverse wire sections 17.
The connecting and adjoining ends of the adjacent sections are provided with annular extensions and recesses as in the first mentioned form. Where the height of the road is such as not to permitthe use of a whole section, I have provided a modified form shown to advantage in Fig. 7. A base slab 15 is provided having a pair of parallel grooves therein adapted to receive the tongues 11. The shoulders on the ends of the U-shaped members are adapted to engage the upper surface of the slab 15 thus permitting the slab to receive the weight bearing on the conduit.
I desire to direct attention to the fact that when the conduit is packed for shipment there are no projecting parts which might possibly become broken rendering a section useless. It will also be apparent that in assembling the sections there are no bolts to be tightened, the only tools necessary for assembling the sections being a trowel for applying the cement. The provision of the novel tongue and groove connections affords means for rendering the conduit watertight.
From the above description taken in connection with the accompanyingdrawings, it is thought that a clear and comprehensive understanding of the'construction. operation and advantages of my invention may be had, and while I have shown and described the device as embodying a specific structure, I desire that it be understood that such changes may be made in said structure as do notdepart from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A plastic section for conduit structure, the section being substantially U-shaped in cross section and having tongues extending from its sides and ends for overlapping engagement with the tongues of adjoining sections, and a skeleton reinforcing frame embedded in the section and having longitudinally and transversely extending rods, certain of said rods being embedded in the ribs and extending longitudinally therein to reinforce the ribs throughout the entire lengths thereof.
