Referring in detail to the drawings. A is the top portion of receiving table of i which A is a supporting apron and A legs.

On the under side of the top A are fastened the slides A which are held in place by the guides A The slides A have their ends A bent at a right angle to which is secured the movable apron A". In the slotted member A is pivoted the eccentric lever A by means of the pin A. To the center of the lever A is attached the rod A which has a bend near its center at A and again at its extreme end A The rod;

A is arranged to slide in the bracket A and the bent end A is'adapted to engage in an eye'A on the bottom of the adjacent table top A The lever A is operated by means of the handle A and is held in a lateral position, which is slightly past its center, by the stop A".

F represents one half of the top of the library table of which F 2 forms a lateral supporting apron and F is the end supporting apron while F represent the usual slides in a table of this type. The two halves of the library table may be latched together by the latches F Near the center of each straight side F is placed an eye F which is similar to the eye A of the table top A F 8 are the legs for the table. F are extra leaves.

When it is desired to have the use of one or two receiving tables it is only necessary to use the table shown in Figs. 1 and 2-.

If it 18 desired to have a small card table both of the receiving tables are joined together as shown in Figs. 3, 4 and 5 and held securely in place in every direction by means of the latch shown in Figs. 6 and 8. The operation of the latch can be best seen in Fig. 6 wherein the straight sides of the table top A have been brought into their proper relation and the movable slides A 'whichcarry the apron A are moved out so that the apron A on one table top will be in close contact with the similar apron on the second table top A.

To accomplish this it will be seen that it i will be necessary for the apron A in moving a described to pass over the eye A on the adjacent table top A thereby presentingthe eye A to engagement with the bent end A of the rod A it being ob served in Fig. 8 that the bent end A does not drop down into the eye A until the central bend A in the rod A passes through the opening in the bracket A which permits the bent end A to descend into the eye A. The required motion of the lever A will draw the pivot A to the end of the slot A in the part A and any further action of the lever A up to the moment it reaches the stop A will increase the-tension on the rod A thereby securely drawing the two table tops A firmly together.

The two receiving tables may be separated by .merely reversing the operation of the lever A and the shape of the central bend A which passes through the hole in the bracket A causes the bent end A to rise out of engagement with the eye A and permits the tables to be separated. A slight end pressure exerted on the bent end A causes the pivot A to slide in the slot A and permits the return of the movable apron A to its normal position underneath its own table top A When it is desired to use the table in the shape shown in Fig 13, which is that of a small dining room table, it is only necessary to bring the receiving tables into place at the end of the card table shown in Fig. 9 and engaging the bent end A of each of the table tops A with the eye F of the library table top F and lock same in place in the smile manner as described for joining the two receiving tables into a card table.

If it is desired to obtain a long dining room table it is only necessary to release the latches F and slide the halves F of the library top apart sufliciently to admit the desired number of extra table leaves F".

It will be apparent to anyone that while some of the individual features of the various tables I have illustrated have long been in use that the utility of being able to pro duce a great number of shapes and sizes of tables by the very simple operations described heretofore will not be questioned.

I claim:

1. In a combination table the combination of a plurality of tables adapted to be united in various forms, a concealed locking device arranged to unite said tables in any desired arrangement, said locking device consisting of a hook mounted behind a slidable apron on the under side of a table in a manner that l. when two tables are joined together said slidable apron may be moved outward to a position underneath the adjoining table having moved past a catch in said adjoining table adapted to receive the hook of said locking device, an eccentric arranged to actuate said hook and lock same in the desired position.

2. In a combination table, the combination of a plurality of separate units arranged to be rigidly joined together by means of a locking device consisting of a slidable apron on the end of one table which is arranged to move outward between the side aprons of the adjoining table in a manner to expose the under parts of the adjacent sides of the table to the action of a locking means.

3. In a combination table, a concealed locking device consisting of a table top having fixed lateral aprons, a slidable end apron, a clamping hook secured to the under side of said table top and adapted to follow behind said sliding apron, a catch mounted on the under side of theadjacent table top adapted to engage said hooks, said sliding apron being arranged to slide beyond said catch in a manner toexpose the catch tothe action of said hook member, and a means for actuating and locking said hook consisting of an eccentric lever arranged to supply movement to said hook and lock same in position.
