WIRELESS TRANSMISSION OF SIGNALS.
Application filed August 27, 1917.
To all whom it may concern: I v
Be it known that I, EARL C. HANsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing-at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vireless Transmission of Signals, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide it absolutely eliminates all radio frequency waves by means of these transformers.
In the annexed drawing, a sendingand a receiving station are shown, these stations being duplicates of each other and being shown wlth the apparatus in the proper position to respectively send andreceive a message. w
Each of the stations comprises an antenna 1 connected to a switch 2 by means of which the antenna 1 may be connected to a sending Wire 3 or a receiving wire 4. The sending wire 3 is connected to one terminal of the secondary 5 of a sending transformer 6, the other terminal of the secondary 5 being connected by a wire 7 with the ground. The primary 8 of the transformer 6 is connected at one terminal directly with the brush 9 of the audio frequency generator 10, the other terminal of the secondary 8 being connected bymeans of a wire 11 with a rheostat 12. The moving arm 13 of the rheostat 12 is connected to a contact pin '14: of a key 15, the moving through a wire 17 with the other brush 1'8 of the generator 10. The transformer 6 is provided with an iron core 19-.
The receiving wire 4 is connected to the primary 21 of a receivingtransformer 22 having an iron core 23, the other terminal of the priinary 21 being connected by means of a Wife 24 with the ground. The secondary 25 of thetransformer 22 is. connected on one terminal to the grid 26 of a vacuum bulb repeater 27. The other terminal of the secondarv 25 is connected to Specification of Letters Patent.
By using iron core transformers Patented Oct. 28, 1919.
Serial No. 188,392.
a moving arm 28 of an adjustable transformer 29 having an iron core 30, a primary winding 31v and 'a secondary wlndmg 32.
The moving arm 28 serves to cut in more or less of the primary winding 31.
.The vacuum bulb repeater 27 is provided with a filament 33 energized by a battery 34. This filament is connected by means of a wire 35 with one terminal of both the primary 31 and the secondary 32. The secondary 32 is provided with a movable arm 36 which is connected to one terminal of the telephonereceiver 37, and by which more or less of the secondary 32 can be cut in or out. Theother terminal of the receiver 37 is connected through a receiver battery 38 with the plate 39 of the vacuum bulb repeater 27.
The method of operation of my invention is as follows:
The generator .10 is so constructed that it generates an audio frequencyelectric current and this current is passed through the primary 8 whenever the key 15 is depressed, the rheostat 12 serving to regulate the flow of current through the primary 8. VVhenever the key is depressed and the primary 8 is so energized a high potential of audio frc quency is generated in the secondary 5, the
efliciency of transformation between the pri mary 8 and the secondary 5 being very high due to the iron core 19. i This high audio frequency potential is impressed between the antenna 1 and the ground causing audio frequency electro-st-atic charges between the antennee and the ground. These charges set up an electro-static field which includes the antenna 1 at the receiving station in which the switch 2 is turned to connect the wire at with the antenna 1. These electro-static charges cause small currents to' flow from the antenna 1 through the primary 21 to the ground. These small currents induce a potential in the primary 25, and this potential is utilized in the vacuum bulb repeater 27 to control the current flowing through the telephone receiver 37.
By the use of the transformer 29 there is formed what is known, as a regenerator circuit which greatly increases the efliciency of the apparatus.
I claim as my invention:
An audio frequency wireless receiving station comprising an antenna; a receiving Waves; means for connecting said primary Winding between said antenna and theground; a vacuum bu1b-repeater having a filament, a grid, and a plate; an adjustable transformer having adjustable primary and secondary windings; means for energizing said filament; a telephone receiver con nected through a receiver battery to said plate and through said adjustable secondary with said filament; means for connecting one terminal of the secondary of the receiving transformer with said grid; and means for connectingthe other terminal ofsaid secondary through the primary of said ad- 15 justable transformer with saidffilament.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 21 day of August, 1917.
EARL C. HANSON.
