AUTOMOBILE DIUIPING-I'BUbK ADAJTABLE FOB PURPOSES OF HOISTING.
Specification Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 28, 1919.
Application fled February 11, 1010. Serial No. 276,485.
a To all whom it ma concern:
Be it known t at I, FRANK Nnanmo, a citizen of the United States, residin at 62 West 93rd street, in the borough 0 Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Automobile Dumping-Truck Ada table for.
The secure stabiliziniof the body to the frame and standards y the latches and spurs upon the frame bolster against uning the location of the slidin v26 usual stresses when towing or carr ing a load sus Figure 1. is a side view of t e truck show moving the friction cones, t e sprocket chains, drum gears and swivel pulleys.
Fig. 2. is a side view of the truck as dumped with drum ears and chains omitted, showing the bra e, latch, and stabilizing spurs. u
ig. 3. is a front view of the operating machinery stripped, with the friction recesses and sliding block in section an-' a portion of the upright frame cut away to show the stud and sprin for locking the latch, and the brake dis and band with the lever omitted.
Fig. 4. is a. view of the latch and are. Fig. 5. is a sectional view of the'sliding block.
- Fig. 6. is a plan view of the slidin block, with guide rod and lock.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the drawings and description.
B. 1s the frame. N N. are standards supporting the body. D D are the ropes wound on the drums J and terminating with shackles K.
. C. is the body which has sockets at front and rear ends for the swivel pulleys D.
H H. are the latches which consist of strong hooks at the upper end of handle bars which are fixed on a rod mounted in bearings across the upper portion of the upri ht frame and engage the staples H on t e under side of the body.
nded from the rear end 01 body. I I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanpling drawings.
block for A ortion of the latch bar H forms an are 0 even radius from the rod upon which H is pivoted.
'H'. is a stud with a round head extending outward from the side of the upright frame and pressed by a spring S against and into holes in the inner face of the said are to hold the latch closed or open as desired.
H. are conical spurs fixed on the u per side of the bolster which supports the ront end of the body, said spurs fit in corres nding sockets in the bottom of the body and stabilize the Body when towing, liftin .or pulling with a rope working in the pn leys 'on'the front and rear end of 'body when the said body is latched.
. T. is the brake disk partly encircled by the band T which is operated bythe. lever T provided with] a awl which on ages a toot ed arc to hold t e brake on w en set. J'. is a winch head-on the outer side of one drum shaft.
R. are sprocket wheels fixed on -the drum shafts which are geared together by gears R and it. I
The said sprocket wheels R are connected by chains 1) D to the sprocket wheels R R which are loosely mounted'on the transverse sha'ft A.
" Between the said s rocket wheels R upon a square section of t e said shaft A is also loosely mounted a spindle I consisting of two out inting truncated cones including a cylindrical portion.
The said cones face correspondin' recesses in the hubs of the sprocket whee s R so-that either end of the said spindle I engaging the facin recess farms a friction clutch and fixes-t e engaged sprocket wheel to the transverse shaft A upon which is fixed the bevel gear R which engages the similar gear R which is fixed on the main shaft A.
The spindle I has about its cylindrical portion a groove within which groove and encircling the said spindle is a ring provided with studs 'upon its opposite sides, which studs engage forks which forms a part of a threaded sliding block U which is tted with a screw L and ide rod L; the screw L is u set on a sha t L, the axis of which is are lel to the axis of the said shaft A and t e turning of the saidscrew L in the threads of the block U moves the friction cones on the spindle I to engage the sprocket wheels R.
80 drical portion encircle The sliding block U is held in a neutral position b one end of the lockba'r U which is shaped ike two joining sides of an obtuse trian le ivoted' on a pm in a line which divides the included angle and is held closed or open by a stud plessed by a spring S against the said lock bar U at a point midway between the pin and the apex of the said an le until the opposite end of the lock bar J= which forms a pedal is pressed downward until the stud passes the said apex and holds the lock open until the lockin end is pressed back to the first position i01- locking the said block U.
L is the screw shaft.
L' is the guide rod to hold the block U in line.
In 0 eration the shackles are disconnected from e dumping connections and may be connected as desired for any hoisting or drum-pulling or the. winch head may be used.
Havin thus described my invention, I hereby ciiiim the following:
1. In a dumping truck a frame, a body, standards pivoted to the body and to the frame, drums enwound with ropes, means for operating the drums includin outfacing friction cones havin an inclu ed cylinby a-1 ing,"t1ids upon the ri'n engaging the forked ortion o a sliding look a screw passing it ough he axis of the said block parallel to the axis a o! the frictioncones for moving the said "with, the frame w on towing 0 cones by the action of the aforesaid screw, a crank for turning the screw.
2. In a dum ing truck, a frame, a body, front stander s pivotally connecting the body with the frame, rear standards ivotally connecting the body with the rame, drums enwound with cables terminating with shackles for pulling and hoisting when the said cables are disconnected from the body and rear standards, a,winch head fixed on one drum shaft, a swivel.pulley mounted on the body, and a brakenn one drum shaft to lower, or hold a load suspended.
3. In a dumping truck, a frame, arbocly, front and rear standards pivotallyconnecting the body and the frame, ropes enwinding drums, swivel pulleys in sockets in vfliont and rear end of be latches in the upright portion of the frame to engage staplesin the underside of the body, means tofilock the latches com rising a stud having a rounded head resse outward by a spring from the uprig t frame against an arc formin a portion of the latch handle and having oles to engage the said stud, spurs set on the, upright portion of the frame to fit corres I ding sockets in the bod to stabiliam, tg
s nded a rear load. 4
