& CARBON FOOT-OPERATED EJECTING MECHANISM FOR CORE-TAJVIPING MACHINES.

Be it known that I, JOHN GRAVES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Madison, in the county of Dane and State of Wisconsin, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Foot Operated Ejecting Mechanism for Core-Tamping Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to mechanism for ejecting cores from the molds used in core making machines. My prior Patent N o. 1,304,559 shows a mold ejecting mechanism in which the mold proper 88 is stationary and a central piston member 94 is operapd i Y prior Patent No. 1,305,279 shows a machine of the same class in which the central piston member -24-26 is stationary and the mold mechanism 28 outside of it is reciprocated along this piston member to eject the mold. The obj ect of this invention is to provide a foot operating mechanism for conveniently movin@ the reciprocatable member in either one of the above types of mold mechanism.
The invention consists in mechanism carrying out the foregoing objects which can be easily and cheaply made, which is satisfactory in operation and is not readily liable to get out of order. More particularly, the invention consists in features and details of construction hereafter more fully set forth in the specification and claims.
Referring to the drawings in which similar numerals indicate the same parts throughout the several views.
Figure l is a side elevation, with some parts in section, of a machine of the general type set forth in one of said prior patents with the mechanism of this invention applied thereto.
Fig. 2 is a front view of the mold mechanism and the parts below it, as shown 1n Fig. l.
Fig. 3 is a sectional plan view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
For convenience, the mechanism of this invention is shown in the drawings as applied to a machine of the type of my said Patent #1,305,27 9. The drawings show a general frame 10 having at its top, a packing plunger 8 and operating mechanism 9 substantially like that shown in said prior Specification of Letters Patent.

Depending from frame 10 is a bracket 14 carrying at its bottom a front lug 16 in which is adjustably secured by suitable nuts 20 and 22, a stationary plunger 24 whose upper end 26 forms the bottom of the concentric mold 28 within which the core to be formed is tamped. This mold 28 is embraced by a clamp 30 which is, in turn, rigidly secured by screws 32 to a cross head member 34 reciprocatable in vertical guides 36 formed in the bracket 14. The upward vertical movement of the cross head 34 with reference to the plunger 24 is regulated and controlled by adjustably positioned screws 38 slidable through the bracket 14 at 40. v
As clearly shown in section in Fig. 3 the bracket 14 is made hollow with two parallel Sides so as to allow for the insertion and movement therein of a short bell crank arm 42 pivoted at its juncture with the other bell crank arm 50 on a pin or shaft 44 inserted through the bracket and having its free end provided with elongated slots 46I within which projecting pins 48 on the inside of crosshead 34 project and slide. The bell crank arm 42 is bifurcated, as shown in Fig. 3, to form recess 49 within which stationary plunger 24 lies. The other arm 50 of the bell crank to which arm 42 belongs is relatively long and carries at its bottom a foot treadle 52 detachably and adjustably secured on the arm 34 by set screw mechanism 54. The bell crank mechanism is normally held in the position shown in the drawings by a spring 56 connected to the lever at 58 and to the bracket 14 by means of the hook 60. This lever is so adjusted in position that it normally holds the parts as shown with the mold 28 elevated ready for packing core material. In operation the mechanism 8-9 is used to pack the mold 28 full of core material, then the operator places his foot on treadle 52 and moves it to the right as viewed in drawings, thus depressing the free end of bell crank arm 42. This moves crosshead 34 and the mold 28 downward until the top of the mold is below the end 26 of member 24 to thus eject the core from the mold.
When the operator then removes his foot from treadle 52 spring 56 automatically returns the parts to the normal position of the drawings.
Having lthus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is l. In mechanism of the class described, in combination with a fixed support and a mold and a plunger therein for ejecting core material therefrom one of said mold parts being movable with reference to the other; a bell crank mechanism pivoted on the fixed support, means operatively connecting one bell crank arm to the mold part which is movable, and means on the other arm of the ball crank engageable by the foot of the operator to move the bell crank to operate the movable mold part.
2. In mechanism of the class described, in combination with a supporting frame, a stationary central plunger, a mold member reciprocatable on said stationary plunger, a pivoted lever mechanism swingable by the foot of the operator, and means operatively connected to the mold mechanism whereby movement of the lever mechanism reciprocates the mold on t-he iXed stationary plunger.
3. In mechanism of the class described, in combination with a supporting frame, a stationary central plunger, a mold member reciprocatable on said stationary plunger, a pivoted lever mechanism swingable by the foot of the operator, means operatively connected t0 the mold mechanism whereby movement of the lever mechanism reciprocates to the mold on the fixed stationary plunger, and spring mechanism tending to normally move the parts to a position in which the mold is so located on the fixed member that core material can be packed therein.

a bell crank pivoted to swing in the space between the sides of the bracket, a mold member reciprocata'ble with reference to the bracket, and guided on the outside of the bracket, an operative connection between one bell crank arm and the mold mechanism and foot operative means for operating the other arms of the bell crank.

In mechanism of the class described, a main frame, a bracket depending therefrom said bracket being made with two opposite side walls, a bell crank having one of its arms bifurcated pivoted so that said bifurcated arms swing between said side walls of the bracket, a crosshea'd slidably guided on the bracket, pins on opposite sides, said crosshead entering opposite sides of said bell crank arm, a rigid plunger member adjustably secured at the lower portion of the bracket and extending upward through the space between the side walls of the bracket and bifurcation of the bell crank arm, a mold carried by the crosshead and slidable on said rigid member, a second bell crank arm rigid with the first and depending therefrom, means engageable by a foot of an operator for moving said last bell crank arm, and spring mechanism for holding the p arts in a predetermined normal position all of the parts being shaped and arranged as shown and described for the purposes set forth.
