FERDINAND I; SGEAETZKE, 0F MILWAUKEEQ WISCONSIN, ASSIGNOR TOIB'BENCH WAX FIGURE GUMPANY, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN, A CORPORATION OF WISCONSIN.
DISPLAY-FIGURE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 28, 1919.
Application filed use, me. Serial No. 238,997.
To all whom it may concern Be. it .known that I, FERDINAND A. SCHAETZKE, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, Milwaukee county, Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Display-Figures, of which the following is a description, referencebeing had to the accompanyi drawings, which are,a.'part of this speci cation.
ginvcntion has for" its ob ect to provide a window display figure with a removable top piece permitting a change from one composition coifi'ure to another or to one provided with natural hair.
In the art of window display figures it has been found desirable to use a painted plastic composition instead of wax with a coiflure or other head ornament of the same material, but in order to permit of variation to suit the different costumes with which the figure is draped and in order that the figure may be provlded with natural hair at times, it is the object of the present invention to provide the figure with a suitable socket-like arrangement on the head adapted to receive and support interchangeable top pieces fitting therewith along the hair line so as to have the joint hidden from view.
Another object of this invention is to perfect details of construction of a demountable interchangeable top piece of this type.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the display figure as herein claimed and all equivalents.
Referring to the accompanying drawings in which like characters of reference indicate the same parts in the diiferent views:
Figure 1 is a view of a display figure provided with a demountable interchangeable composition top piece in accordance with this invention;
Fig. 2 is a view of such top piece removed;
Fig. 3 is a view of a wax top piece for substitution on the same figure to provide it with a natural hair coifi'ure;
Fig. 4 is a view of a plastic head ornameit for substitution on the same figure; an 9 Fig. 5 is a rear view of the top piece receiving socket on the head of the figure.
In these drawings 10 indicates a display figure which may be of any suitable material, though it is preferably of the painted composition type, and 11 is the irregularly shaped socket formed on the head thereof with its edges along the hair line. Embedded in the figure is a pipe section 12 forming a tubular guide inclined in a direction that will permit of a removable top piece 13 to move into'or out of a seating position in the socket without binding therewith. The seating surface of the top piece is in reverse counterpart of the surface of the socket so that it closely fits within the socket, an inclined tubular stem :14: embedded therein and projecting therefrom serving to fit within the guide tube 12 to determine the line of movement required for applying or removing the top piece. The top piece is preferably provided with a rounded enlargement .l'back of the stem 14 which by fitting in the corresponding cavity 16 of the socket forms a supporting bearing for the top piece positioned approximately beneath the center of gravity of the top piece to assist the stem in the support of the top piece. While the various top pieces shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 4 are alike so as to interchangeably fit the socket 11 of the figure they differ in that the top piece 13 in Fig. 2 is provided with a composition coifiure while the top piece 13' of Fig. 3 though mainly composed of composition or plaster of Paris has a deep wax covering 17 in which is embedded natural hair 18 shown in dotted lines. and the top piece 13" shown in Fig. 4 constitutes a composition head ornament of any fanciful de- With this invention a composition figure may be varied by changing the top piece so as to have either a composition coifi'ure or a natural hair coifiure or any other head ornament, so as to change its appearance from time to time or to suit the costume displayed thereon. With either the natural hair or the composition top pieces the parting line between the top piece and the walls of the socket 11 is hidden from view by the hair being made to slightly overlap such line as shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
I desire it to be understood that this invention is not limited to any specific form or arrangement of parts except in so far as such limitations are specified in the claims.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A display figure having a socket in the head thereof with the walls of the socket approximately along the hair line of the head, removable interchangeable top pieces fitting in saidsoeket, and means for guiding said pieces into and out of the socket.
2. A display figure hewinga socket in the head thereof with the walls of the socket approximately along the hair line of the head, a guide tube embedded in the socket, and removable interchangeable top pieces fitting in said socket each provided with a,- projecting stem fitting within the guide tube.
3. A display figure havinga socket-formed in the head thereof with the walls of the socket approximately along-the hair line of the head, an inclined guide tube embedded inthe socket; removable interchangeable top piecesfitting in the socket and each provided with an inclined stem embedded therein and fitting within the guide tube, and rounded depending enlargements on the top pieces fitting in a corresponding cavity of the socket.
4. A display figure having a socket formed in the head thereof with the walls of the socket approximately aloha the hair line of the head, and =1emovabrle interchangeable top pieces fitting in the socket and overlapping the edges of the socket.
5. A display figure of composition 1118.136? rial provided with a socket in the head thereof with the Walls of the/socket approximately along the hair line, and removable interchangeable top pieces of composition material and of natural hair fitting in the socket.
6. A display figure of composition material having a socket formed in the head thereof with the walls of the socket approximately along the hair line of the head; and removable interchangeable top pieces fitting in the socket, one top piece forming a coifl'ure of composition material and another constituting a Wax base with hair embedded therein.
In testimony, whereof, I affix my signa-t M10111: patun t may be obtaimd tor-five cents each; by addressing the "commissionerof Patents,
