T0 all whom t may Qoncern:
Be it known that I, HARRY il". 'Frei-1ER, s citizen of the United States, residing et Columbus7 in the county of Franklin und State of hio', h-.we invented e certain new' und useful Improvement in Fuse-Boxes, ot which the following is s specification.
This invention relates more particularly lto fuse boxes tor high tension electric conductors and 'has for its object to ineke i1nproveinents in the details of construction whereby their operation is facilitated, made more reliable and less dangerous to those who manipulate them.
rlhe invention is embodied in the exznnple herein shown :1nd described, the features ot' novelty being finally claimed.
in the accompanying drawing- Figure l is s, front View of the fuse box with the door opened und disclosing the interior details.
Fig. 2 is :i vertical section on the line- II II Fig. 1 looking to the right.
Fig. 3 is s plan view of the lower side o the pull rod.
Fig. 41 is a detail sectional vieuY on at' larger scalo of the upper end of the fuse container.
In the views 5 designates the box and 6 2L door therefor hinged, es et 7, to clojse the front of the box. 8 designates s. stone or porcelain insulettino- 'base suitably mountn ed and secured in the left hand side of the box. The base has upon it suitable 'binding posts 10, end 1l for connecting the electric line conductors which ere passed into and out of the box through. suitable porcelain bushings 5u. Mounted on. the losse in electrical connection with the binding posts are clips or female members 13 of e -vlrnite switch. 14 designates the fuse oontiiner, the same [being n tube of suitable insulatingl material but having on its upper and lower ends metallic thinrbles l5, 15, the upper one, 15,-being threaded to receive e metallic plug- 161 The plug .16 'has a stud 17 to receive e, screw 18 for the purpose of binding the fuse Wire i9 to it. The other end of the fuse Wire which extends 'tinough the tube is secured in a, binding post on. the outer side of the thinible 15j', has knife switch members 2 to ineke conv 'tact With the 'female' switch members i3.
22 designates the pull rod.. This pull rod is of insulating materiel sind ismounted to The container slide longitudinally in .metallic tn nnoie ci bushiiig 23 mounted on the right hand Wall. of the bos.k The outer enr-l olI the pull rod is provided with s suitsble handle 9.1i. by ineens of which the rod. may be conveniently slid or rocked in. its besring` sind the inner end of seid rod provided 'with :t bifurcete niein'ber the :forks oi? which are provided with pins to enter oorresponding sockets in e. cross piece 2,6 on the fuse 6 cont-einer. By these ineens the fuse coin tsiner lirnily but removably supported in s position et right angles to the direction of movement of the pull rod. The lower sido of the pull rod is mede wi. .h s longitudinal slot 2i' which is enlnrg'ed laterally zit its le'l't hand end as seen at 2?, seid slot being en guged with it pin 98 in the thiinble or bush-r ing; 23 so that when seid pin engages the slot 2'? the rod muy be pulled or pushed in e right line; and when seid pin is opposite the enlarged portion 27 the pull red may be rocked on its ms to turn the fuse conminer support. into position for convenient reception sndifenioval of the fuse container. By positioning the pairs oi contacts i3, and 15, 15a. so that tliey are maintained in parallel reution to eech the electr. connection and disconnection of the circuit through the fuse iS iliade 'instenteneous ""ld practically coinglete upon the sppropr c movement of the pull in' the bottoni of the box just below lower end of' the fuse container, 'when thet nieniber is ,in oircuit closing position, is en orifice' in which is fitted e tliiinbie 29 nron vided with s screen. 30 to @etch the debris olif' l e. burnt fuse.
Because the upper end of the iu se container is enlarged end glugged or elosed et one end. like the barrel of s gun. the gases generated by the burning of the iuse @suse :in expel sion of the debris through the thinible 29.
rihe practice with this invention. is to 'null ut the .tuse before opening the door oit" t e box, und to close the door i tore shovingl tne- 'use into circuit closineposition. in this *W possible flashing or. Heine in the :ie-ce the operator Vand the dangers en ennojfftnoe incidentthereto are avoidd But the ent construction suoli iissliing or speriring er' heating :ter lese probable be cause ot the simuitsneons, Wide or eque., separation of the conte-cts. l
Changes te mede passt-s without departing from the gist of 'the invention as claimed.
'What I Claim is:
l. in combination with a 'fuse box for high tension electric conductors having a vpair of stationary clips, a pull rod longitudinally movable in a Awall of said box and having at its inner end a seat for a fuse oonizainer, a fuse container having a pair of eentaets to cooperate with 'the aforesaid Stationaiy clips and also having means for seat ing the fuse container on its seat on the pull rod so as to be freely removable ltherefrom, means whereby said pull rofl may be roeked. on ita axis when the contacts of. the fuse eontainer are Withdrawn from the Stationary clips and means whereby the pull rod is ple. eluded from longitudinal movement When so turned. on its axis.
2. in combination with a fuse box for high tension electric conductors having a pair of stationary clips, a pull roel longitudinally movable in a Wall of said box and having at its inner end a seat for a fuse container'7 a fuse container having a pair of contacts to cooperate with the aforesaid stationary clips and. also having intermediate Said contacts means for seating the fuse container on its seat on the pull rod so as to be freely removable therefrom, means whereby Said pull rod4 may be rocked on its axis when the oontaets of the 'fuse container are withdrawn i'roni the Stationary clips and means whereby the pull rod is precluded from longitudinal movement when so turned on ite axis.
3. In combination with a 'fuse box for high tension electric conductors having a pail' of stationary clips, a `pull rod longitudinally movable in a wall of Said box and having at its inner end a Seat for a fuse container, a fuse container having a pair of Contacte to eoperate With the aforesaid stationary elipe and also having means :for seating the fuse container on its seat on the pull rod so as to be freely removable therefrom, means Whereby said pull rod may be rocked on its axis when the `contacts oi the fuse container are Withdrawn from theA stationary clips, means whereby the pull rod is precluded from lon gitndinal movement when so turned on its axis and means for guiding Said pull rod to cause the engagement of Said contacts with said clips.
