EUGENE SIMON IBERLIOZ, OF LYON, FRANCE, ASSIGNOR '10 SOCIETE ARIS, OF LYON,
FRANCE, A SOCIETE OF FRANCE.
Specification of Letters Patent;
Patented Oct. 14, 1919.
Application filed March 13,.1918. Serial No. 222,197.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EUGENE SIMON BEnLIoz, a citizen of the French Republic, residing at Lyon, in France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sparking-Plugs for Explosion-Motors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object a new device applicable to all kinds of sparking plugs for explosion motors for the purpose of obtaining the spark, at the center of the sparking plug, in a perfect and regular manner. y
The annexed drawing illustrates the end of a sparking plug provided with the device.
Figure 1 is a front view partly in section, and Fig. 2 is a side View and partial section on line 1-1 of Fig. 1. I
This device consists in the combination of the two following elements of construction.
The lower end of the central rod (1 constituting the electrode proper is shaped as at (L1 and chamfered to form an edge analogous to the end of a screw driver.
Directly underneath this shaped end of electrode a screw threaded rod 0 is arranged which passes diametrically through the body of the sparking plug and is supported on two opposed extensions 5 of the plug.
For mounting the sparking plug the central electrode a is adjusted so that its flattened end (Z- is situated in a plane passing through the center of the electrode and through the axis oi the screwthreaded rod 0.
By this arrangement, the sparks produced on the edge ofthe flattened end a and the ends of the threads of the screw opposite it, it can be understood that then sparks will be naturally powerful and regular. Moreover the diametrical screw, owing to its position below the electrode, prevents fouling of the sparking plug.
The screw-bores in the extensions 6 b of the sparking plug body for receiving the ends of the screw 0, being efi'ected on a machine provided for this operation, the mounting of this screw diametrical position in alinement with the bottom edge of the electrode, as well as at the exact distance therefrom, thus obtaining automatic adjustment of the sparking plug.
Vhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letter Patent of the United States is:-
In a sparking plug for explosion engines the combination of a central rod, constituting the electrode, having its lower end chamfered to form a. straight edge and a rod in which a screw thread is cut, said latter rod being arranged below and at a n'iathematically calculated distance from said edge,
and so that its axis lies in the same vertical plane as said edge.
In witness whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two witnesses.
