To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ORLO L. Wool), a citizen of the United States, residing at Lansing, in the county of Ingham and State new and useful Improvements in Gages, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in printing presses and particularly to means for the automatic feeding of such presses, the object being to improve the feeder now used on presses of the Gordon o this end the invention contemplates the provision of an improved finger, which is actuated in the usual manner to remove the paper to its final position against the gage pins after having been automatically delivered to the platen.
In the form of the finger now usedand with the Miller automatic feeder for Gordon presses, it is necessary to provide different fingers for feeding paper of different thicknesses, the finger used for feeding paper of ordinary thickness not being adapted for feeding heavy paper or cardboard.
The invention aims to provide a finger which may be substituted for the one now in use and which will feed the material of all thicknesses from tissue paper to cardboard, thereby avoiding the necessity of providing extra fingers and the consequent loss of time for changing them.
l/Vith the above and other objects in view, the invention includes the following novel features and details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, to be hereinafter more fully described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

Referring in detail to the drawings, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the numeral 10 designates the platen of a Gordon press, which is equipped with a Miller automatic press feeder. The portion shown includes a finger holder 11, the arm 12 which actuates the holder to impart a reciprocatory movement thereto, a guide nut 13 which is threaded upon the gripper shaft A and connected to the arm 12 by means of a link a Th shaft A which carries the grippers 14L for holding the sheet 15 in position to receive the impression, also acts to move the guide nut 13 longitudinally of the platen and through the medium of the arm 12, impart an oscillating movement to the finger holder 11, all of which is of ordinary construction and operations and forms no part of the present invention. The usual gage pins 16 are also shown upon the tympan of the platen 10.
The invention which is adapted to be removably clamped within the finger holder 11 in the usual manner, comprises a fiat body member 18, the outer end of which" is rounded and beveled to provide a stationary jaw 19, which lies flat upon the platen backing, so that the paper fed thereon will slide over the end of the jaw.
Spaced from the beveled end of the stationary jaw 19, are bearing lugs 20, the latter being formed by bending the material from which the body member is made to provide an offset, which is centrally and transversely slotted for the reception of'a movable jaw 21. This last mentioned jaw is provided with an inclined outer end 22. which cooperates with the beveled end of the jaw 21 to provide an entrance for the paper. The jaw 21 is also formed with a reduced shank 23, which is positioned within the slot between the bearing lugs 20, and is provided with a transverse opening for the reception of a pivoted pin 24. The jaw 21 is thus pivotally mounted in a manner to prevent the edge thereof for contact with the flat face of the stationery jaw 19, which acts to reduce friction, so that the softest tissue paper may be fed between the jaws without danger of tearing or buckling. The juncture of the inclined portion 22 and the reduced shank 23 of the jaw 21 forms a gripping shoulder 25, so that while the surface of the jaw 21 which contacts with the paper is small, the said paper is securely held in position to permit of its being fed up to final position against the side gage pin through the pivotal movement of the finger,
