MANUEL B. KING, OF NEW BEDFOBD, MASSACHUSETTS.
YARN-GUIDE.
Specification of Letters Patent. 7 Patented Sept. 16, 1919.
Application filed March 28, 1919. Serial N 0. 285,904.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MANUEL B. KING, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Bedford, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Yarn-Guides, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in yarn guides and tension devices and the principal object of the invention is to provide means for making the guide adjustable to suit different sizes of yarns and to combine with the guide interchangeable tension rollers so that a roller of the proper size may be used.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for holding the bobbin in position.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, ref erence will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure l is a View showing the invention 1 in use;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged side view of the guide and tension device;
Fig. 3 is a plan view of this device;
Fig. 4 is a rear view thereof;
Fig. 5 is a sectional detail of the roller.
In these views 1 indicates the base of the guide which is provided with the clownwardly projecting lugs 2, one of which carries the screw 3 for securing the device to a part of the frame. At one end the base is provided with the V-shaped opening 4 end- 7 ing in the slot 5 for receiving the yarn. The upper face of the base is provided with the three upwardly extending ears 6 through which the pivot pin 7 passes. Between the outermost lugs the arm 7 of the yarn guide passes and is pivoted on the pin. A plate 8 is secured to the end of this arm and eX- tends at right angles thereto. The arm is provided with a pair of screw-threaded holes 9 which receive the adjusting screws 10 which are located one on each side of the arm. It will thus be seen that the arm may be adjusted by these screws so as to occupy any desired position in relation to the base. A pin 11 is supported at the edge of the base adjacent the lower edge of the plate 8 and this pin acts as a stop for the yarn. The short arm 12 is also pivoted to the pin 7 and is located between the two inner ears 6 as shown. The outer end of this arm carrise a roller 13. This roller is detachably secured to the arm by means of 'a bolt l l passing through a bore 15 in the roller and having its screw-threaded end 16 engaging a hole in said arm and receiving a nut 17 which holds the bolt on the arm. This bolt is provided with a screw head 18. I provide a plurality of these rollers of different sizes so that one roller can be replaced by a roller of a different size when it is desired to use devices for yarn of a different size. It will thus be seen that the guide plate 8 may be adjusted to suit different sizes of yarns and by placing the proper sized roller on the arm the proper tension is placed on the arm.
As shown in Fig. 1, the yarn passes from the bobbin A through my improved device shown at B to the spool C.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent;
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided-that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
IVhat I claim is 1 A device of the classdescribed, comprising a base, ears projecting upwardly therefrom, a guide having an arm pivoted between said ears, an arm also pivoted to said ears and a roller detachably connected to said arm.
2. A device of the class described, comprising a base having a yarn-receiving opening therein, clamping means on the underside of the base, ears projecting upwardly In testimony whereof I affix my signature. 7
MANUEL B. KING.
