Description

E; HALLOWAY. Improvement in Ice 6H.
-Cream Freezers.
atented Sep.24,1872.
= mmuwmmmm STA PATENT OFFICE.
EDWIN HALLOWAY, OF BELVIDERE, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN ICE-CREAM FREEZERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 131,611, dated September 24, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN HALLOWAY, of Belvidere, in the county of Boone and State of Illinois, have invented a new andImproved Ice-Cream Freezer, of which the following is a specification 2 My invention relates to the classof freezers wherein the revolving cream-holder has arotary stirrer or dasher within it, and is arranged in an ice-holder placed in a Wooden tub; and the invention consists in the combination of certain parts of the apparatus, as hereinafter specified.
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of my improved ice-cream freezer taken on the line a: w of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section taken on the line 3 y of Fig. 1. Figs. 3 aud4 are detail sections, showing the catches for engaging the different parts with the dasher.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents the outer wooden tub with a cover B, through the center of which the shaft 0 of the dasher E rises. F is the ice-holder, consisting of a sheet or cast metal case with a cover, G. H is thecream-holder, which is another sheet-nletal case smaller than F, and arranged in a step, I, in the bottom thereof, so as to turn freely. This case has a very closefitting cover, K, whose flange fits down upon a rib or-flange, L, so as to insure the preventing of the ice and salt or other freezing-mire ture, which is to be contained in the case F, from working into the cream-holder. The top of this cream-holder is centered in the iceholder by the ring M surrounding it, and supported by the arms N, which spring into the annular groove 0, in the inner wall of the iceholder near the top. P is a spring-catch, arranged on the under side of the cover K of the cream-h0lder, in. such manner that when the dasher is turned to the left it willso connect the dasher and cream-holder that the latter will be turned by the dasher in the ice as required to facilitate the freezing, but when the dasher is turned the other way the spring will rise and allow it to pass by, and at the same time a projection, Q, on the top of cover K of the cream-holder, will come against a similar spring, R, on the under side of cover G, which holds the cream-holder while the dasher turns. This spring rises and allows the cream-holder to turn when the crank is turned in the direction for turning the creamholder in the ice. The ice-holder has small holes, T, in the bottom near the center, to allow a draft of cold air contained in the tub A to circulate up through the ice, which greatly facilitates the freezing.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- 1. The combination, with the ice-holder and cream-holder, of the ring M and arms N, substantially as specified.
2. The ice-holder, provided with the airholes T, arranged in an inclosing-tub, A, substantially as specified.
EDWIN HALLOWAY.
