IMPFIVEMENT EN SlNK-TRAPS.
Specification describing a new and Improved Sink-Trap, invented by GEORGE PRE- TERRE, of New York, county and State of New York.
The drawing represents a vertical section of my improved sink-trap.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspending parts.
This invention relates to a new trap to be applied to the discharge-pipe of sinks, with the object of preventing the ascent of injurious or unpleasant odors through such pipe. The invention consists in the application of an enlarged chamber to such pipe, and in the arrangement therein of a transverse partition and weighted valve, all as hereinaftermore fully described.
A A in the drawing are portions of the discharge-pipe from an ordinary or suitable sink. B is an enlarged chamber of double-conical or other form, constituting part of the dischargepipei. e., interposed between the portions A A thereof, as shown. Within the vessel B is a partition, a, with a hole through it, which is, closed by a hinged valve, b. This valve is confrom below against the hole in the partition a.
The valve constitutes thus a trap, which prevents the ascent of gases or foul odors through l the partition a, but yields easily to the pressure of liquids or matter poured upon it from above. Under the partition is, in the side oi' the vessel B, an opening, closed by a door, e. Through this opening the interior of the vessel can be inspected and repaired when desired.
The device, it will be seen, is simple and not liable to get out of order, though easily repaired, if required.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure ley-Letters Pat ent- The sink-trap, composed of the vessel B, partition a', and weighted valve b, substantially as herein shown and described.
GEORGE PRETERRE.
