The case -15- is provided with a suit able cover l$) secured thereto in any suitable manner and adapted to inclose the nut -14. This nut -14 has an opening 20 of a form adapted to cooperate with the shaft 11 for transferring the direct movement ofthe nut into a rotary movement ofthe shaft, and in the form shown this openin is substantially square and preferably as the planes of its inclosing face's obliquely vdisposed with respect to its axis to facilitate the starting of the relative movement of the parts.
The case -I5 is sufficiently deep to allow the nut 14 to lie in aposition at which the teeth thereon will not engage the stops 18- upon the case. In other Words, the seat within the case is of sufiicient depth or size to, allow the nut -14 with the teeth thereon to move out of engagement with the stops upon the case so that the nut may freely rotate with respect to the case. When the case is moved 'down by the operatin handle, the inertia of the shaft 11 an the parts carried thereby cause the nut to move aiiially within the case to such a position that the teeth upon the nut come into engagement with the stops 'upon the case to prevent rotation of the nut while the case is being moved in that direction. -When the case is moved in a reverse direction, the nut drops down by gravity and the case is moved axially with respect to the nut, which remains stationary due to the inertia of the shaft, thereby dlseng'aging the teeth 11 on the nut with the stops upon the case so t at the nut may freely rotate within the case so lon as it is beingmoved in that direction.

A suitable spring 30 has its central portion tensioned around the bolt 27 and its ends respectively bearing against the casing 6' and the lever 2 on the side of its pivot next the ratchet clutch, so that the spring normally tends to return the lever to starting position after each operation and this return is rapid and easy by reason of the fact that the teeth upon the nut --'l4--- slide over the stops 1 8- upon this return movement so that the nut itself may rotate, thereby obviating the rotation of the shaft 11-- and the vibration of the die plil'ugin as hereinafter described.
A suitable toothed or cam wheel -3l is mounted on the shaft --l l-- and preferably has its marginal portion disposed in a plane substmitially midway of the diaphragm 1 and operating through a slot -36 formed in the depressed portion 5 of the case section -3 and its central portion depressed or effect from the plane of its marginal portion, so that the cam wheel may force the vibration of the diaphragm at substantially the central point thereof, and yet the shaft -11 may have its spirally arranged portion extend somewhat more than one-half the length of the shaft so that a more extensive rotary movement may be imparted to the cam wheel than would be per sible if the wheel were jou'rnaled upon the central I ortion of the shaft -ll-.
The c iaphragin --1- is provided with a suitable contact member --32 cooperating with the Wheel 31 to vibrate the dia phragm, and this contact member is preferably externally threaded for coaction with an internally threaded'bushing 33 secured to the diaphragm in any suitable manner, as by having one of its ends welded over a washer 3t4e and the contact member may be adjusted toward and from the toothed wheel 31 by vmeans of this threaded relation and may be locked in an predetermined adjusted position by a Ioc nut -35-.
It will now be apparent that by reason of the relatively large'size of the Wheel 31 and the ossibility of rapid rotation of the shaft 11 by the means disclosed, a very rapid vibration of the diaphragmmaysbe forced and that said forced vibration may continue for any desired space of time, limited solel by the possible extent of movement of t 1e operating nut 14- along the shaft -11-, and that this forced vibration her for moving the shaft actuator along the shaft, said shaft actuator and said meniher havinga limited movement relatively to each other in a direction axiallv of the shaft,
