Description
1. P. TRYNER-l Improvement in Earl-Rin L"ubplpbrters No. 130,771. Patented Aug. 2o, 1872.
#kW/v.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES P. TRYNER, OF BLOOMINGTON, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN EAR-RING SUPPORTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 130,771, dated August 20, 1872.
Aer for ear-rings, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a side view, and Fig. 2 a front view, of the supporter. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of a but-ton forming part of the supporter.
A represents a gold wire, of suitable thick 'ness to t around the back of the ear, the upper end a of the same being bent downward to catch on the front of the ear. Plated wire will of course answer'the same purpose. The lower end of the wire A is bent horizontally outward, so that a part, b, will be behind the point of the ear. It is then bent downward and upward, forming the loop or hook d, in which the point of the ear is placed. At the lower end of this hook is a small eye or ring, e, in which the ear-ring or pendant may be attached. Upon the extreme end of the hook d Awhich points upward is attached 'a head, B,
through which passes a hollow stem, f. This stem should be longer than the thickness of the head, and is at each end provided with a disk, h. Upon the inner end of the hollow stem f, and running longitudinally with it, are two han ges, M, which pass through slots made for that purpose in the head B. After the wire A has been placed on the ear and the point of the ear inserted in the hook d, the stem f, with its disks, is pressed inward against the-ear until the anges fi t' clear the head B, when the whole stem is turned in either direction, Inaking the flanges come against the solid lpart of the head, thus keeping the entire supporter in place. This button or fastening may be ornamented in any desired manner, and may be provided with a cap for covering the same. The upper end a of the wire will be left straight, and the party selling them will bend the wire to fit the ear they are intended for.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isv 1. The combination of the head B, stem f,
disks h h, and ilanges t' i, substantially as andA for the purposes herein set forth.
2. The combination of the wire A, having the bent parts b d, with the head B, stemf, disks h h, and flanges t' yi, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 28th day of May, 1872.
' JAMES P. TRYNER.
