My invention relates to devices for trolley conductors and particularly to approaches for frogs, crossings and similar conductor attachments.
One object of my invention is to provide a device of the above indicated character that shall be simple and durable in construction and inexpensive to manufacture.
Another object of my invention is to provide an approach for a trolley-conductor device that, with its cooperating members, shall comprise a relatively small number f parts and be readily mounted in operative position on a conductor by the use of a simple tool, such as a wrench.
In practising my invention, I provide a removable extension member for a frog or other trolley-conductor device to take up the shocks and wear incident to the passage of trolley contact members and a member pivoted to the frog or other device that may be readily moved to and from its holding position to permit mounting of the conductor. The pivoted member supports a screw bolt for pressing engagement with the extension member and may be locked in position on the frog orother device in the direction of the bolt.
Figure 1 is a top plan View of a portion of a trolley frog embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a side elevational View of the device shown in Fig. 1, and Fig.3 is a view, taken along the line IIIIII of Fig. 2.
A frog 1, for the reception of a trolley conductor 2, only one approach end 3 of which is shown, comprises a. channel or body portion 4 of substantially U-section in which the conductor 2 is disposed and to which the latter may be attached in any suitable manner.
An extension member 5, preferably of malleable material, projecting from the end 3, has an inverted channel portion 6 for embracing the conductor 2, a plane end face 7 that engages theend 3, and a central web portion 8 isposed in the channel 4 above the conductor 2.
Oppositely and outwardly projecting lugs 9 and. 10, on the upper edges of the channel at the'end 3, support a member 11 that is plvoted, at. one end, to the lug 10 by a pin or bolt 12 and has an overhanging portion 13, at its opposite end, to embrace the lug 9. The cooperating faces ofthe lug 9 and the portions 13 have the curvature of arcs struck from the'center of the pin 12. A'threaded bolt 14. extends through a threaded opening in the member 11 and may be advanced into rigid engagement with the web portion 8..
During the. operation of mountingthe frog in position, I the member 11 is first turned about the pin 12 to a position, as indicated bybroken lines in Fig. 1, to permit the placing of the conductor 2 in the channel The member 5 may then be placed in position and the member 11 moved to a position corresponding to that shown in the drawings, after which the bolt 14 maybe turned down tightly against the web portion 8. i
The portion 8 may be provided With a recess 15 to receive the end of the bolt 14 and have its bottom face shaped to fit the conductor 2. The relation of the overhanging portion 13 With the lug 9 prevents shearing of the pin 12 and the portion 13 serves as a base between which and the portion 8 the longitudinal thrust of the bolt 14 is transmitted.
The portion 6 may be swaged or turned into the usual embracing relation with the conductor 6, and lugs 16 may be provided to support the frog by means of usual guy wires, not shown.
While I have shown and described a particular form of my invention, changes may be effected therein without departing from the spirit and scope thereof as set forth in the appended claims.
I claim as my invention:
1. A trolley-conductor device comprising a body member of channel shape for the reception of saidconductor and having outer projections at the sides thereof, an approach member embracing the conductor and having a portion in said channel, a member piv-- oted at one end to one of said projections and having its other end of hook shape for embracing one of said projections and a screwthread'ed member extending through said, pivoted member and engaging said approach member.
2. A trolley-conductor device comprising a body member of channel shape for the reception of said conductor and having outer projections at the sides thereof, an approach member embracing the conductor and having a portion in said channel, a member pivoted at one end to one of said projections and having its other end of hook shape for embracing one of said projections, said pivoted member constituting a bridging member across said channel and being rotatable to one side to permit the insertion of said conductor'in said channel and a sereW-tln'eaded member extending through said pivoted member and engaging said approach member.
3. A trolley-conductor device comprising a body member-of channel shape for there ception of said conductor, an approach member embracing the conductor and having a portion in said channel, a member pivoted at one side of said channel and having a portion for holding engagement in one direction With the other side of said channel and an adjustable member extending through said pivoted member and engaging said approach member to hold the latter in position.
4;. A trolley-conductordevice comprising a body member of channel shape for thereception of said conductor, an approach member, a member pivoted at one side of said channel and having a portion for locking engagement in one direction with the other side of said channel and an adjustable member disposed on said pivoted member to hold said approach member in position.
5. A trolley-conductor device comprising a body member for the reception of said c011- ductor, an approach member, a member pivoted to said body member and a member engaging said pivoted member and said approach member to hold the latter in position. 6. A trolley-conductor device comprising a body member "for the reception of said conductor, an approach member, a member pivoted to said body member and permanently associated therewith, and a Il'lGHIlJGI engaging said pivoted member and saidv approach member to hold the latter in position.
7. A trolley-conductor device comprising a body member for the reception of said conductor, an approach member, a member relatively movably and permanently associated witlrsaid body member and means connecting said relatively movable member and said approach member to hold the latter in NILS J. A. WAI-ILBERG'.
