945,678, dated January 4, 1910, 'which boxes have-a tiltable core that is subjected to great heat, as all the plates are; cast around such core. It is the object. of the present'invention to keep the core or box at a sufficiently high temperature to prevent injury to the'plates while being cast, and also to prevent the core or box becoming overheated and injured thereby.
The present invention is theresult of a series of experiments I have made with such boxes in efforts to obtain the desired objects and by the present invention I have realized such object by simple and efficient means, and the plates can be cast very rapidly in such boxes without overheating the box, and without injuring the plates during the casting thereof. 7
The accompanying drawings illustrate diagrammatically one practlcal embodiment of the invention and the following description thereof, together with the drawings, will enable others skilled in the art to adopt and use the same; and in the claims the essential features of the inven tion for which protection is desired are summarized.

The casting box may be of any suitable construction to cast plates of any desired kind, but I have illustrated a box forcasting tubular stereotype plates, lsuch box having a drag l, cope 1 and a core 1 substantially as described in my aforesaid patent. v 1
