APERTURE-PLATE AND FILM GUIDE AND TENSION DEVI GE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MILTON L. PARRET, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Marshalltown, in the county of Marshall and State of Iowa, have invented a certain new and useful Aperture-Plate and Film Guide and Tension Device, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide an aperture plate and film guide and tension device for moving picture projecting machines of simple, durable and inexpensive construction.
A further object is to provide such a device comprising a suitable guide'means for holding a film in proper position with relation to the light aperture and adapted for imposing varying tensions on the film.
With these and other objects in view, my invention consists in the construction, arrangement and combination of the various parts of the device, whereby the objects contemplated are attained, as hereinafter more fully setforth, pointed out in my claim, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which: 7
Figure 1 shows a rear elevation of an aperture plate and film guide and tension device embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 shows a vertical, sectional view through the same taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 shows a horizontal, sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 4 shows a top or plan view of the device.
In the accompanying drawings I have used the reference numeral 10 to indicate part of the frame of a moving picture projecting machine. Secured to and pro ecting from the frame 10 is a frame 11 in which is a light aperture or opening 12. On the forward side of the frame 11 is a fire shutter 13 mounted in beveled grooves 14 as shown in Fig. 4. The rear surface of the frame 11 is provided near its side edges with vertical ribs 15 and with a rabbet or groove 16 extending vertically along its outer edge. Adjacent to the rear surface of the frame 11 is a film guide and tension plate 17 substantially rectangular in outline having an open- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 3, 1919.
Application filed January 8, 1918. Serial No. 210,910.
It will be noted that the arrangement of the parts is such that when the'screw bolt 25 is moved away from the arm 2l'gravity will cause the plate 17 to swing downwardly to position with its lower end farther from the frame 11 than its upper end. \Vhen, however, thescrew bolt 25 is moved against the arm 21 the plate 17 may be yieldably pressed against the frame-11 with whatever tension is desired. The ribs 15 serve as guide members to prevent any lateral movement of the film when it is threaded between the plate 17 and the frame 11.
It may be mentioned that the fire shutter 13 is provided on the rear surface with a horizontal, elongated loop 26. Suitably supported is a shaft 27 on which is an arm 28 having a pin 29 extended through said loop 26. The shaft 27 may be 0 erated in any suitable way for raising the 're shutter at the proper time.
Some changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of the various.
parts of my improved device without departing from the essential features of my invention and it is my. urpose to cover by my claim any modified i orm of structure 01' use. of mechanical equivalents, which may,
be reasonably included Within the scope of my invention.
I claim as my invention:
In a moving picture machine, a frame having a light aperture therein, said frame having a pair of spaced, parallel vertical ribs on opposite sides of the light aperture, and having adjacent to one of said ribs a shoulder, and adjacent to the other of said ribs a rabbet, a second frame adapted to fit adjacent to said ribs, having a rib designed to-fit into said rabbet, and means for yield- MILTON L. PARRET.
