To all 'whom t may concern.'

Be it known that I, ERVIN S. BOARDMAN, a citizen of the United States,residing at town of Thorp, in the county of Clark and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Egg-Strap and Fastener, of which the following is a specification f The device forming the subject matter of this application is a fastener, adapted to be applied to egg cases and like receptacles, to hold the lid closed thereon, and one object of the invention is to provide novel means for releasably connectingV said parts of the structure.

A further object of the invention is to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the present invention appertains.

With the above and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention. In carrying out the invention, there is provided a receptacle including a box like body 1' and having a lid 2. The body and the lid are surrounded at both ends of the receptacle, if desired, by duplicate structures, but one of which need be described. Each one of these structures includes a strap, preferably made of metal, and including a base 3 bent to form a front strip 4. The rear end of the base 3` is detachably connected as indicated at 5 with an upright back strip 6. The numeral 7 denotes a topstrip extending transversely of the lid 2. The

back strip 6 andthe top strip 7 are provided with eyes 8 connected by a loop shaped link 9, a pivotal union between the lid 2 and the body 1 thusbeing provided. The top strip 7 may be connected to the lid 2 by means of securing devices 10, the parts 6,3, and Zllbe curing devices 11.

The numeral 12 marks a keeper having an eye 14, and there is an eye 14a at the front end of the top strip 7. A loop shaped link 15 is mounted in the eyes 14 and V14a, and thus the keeper 12 is pivoted to the top strip 7, the link 15 being Vcurved so asy to extend across the forward edge of the lid 2, as shown clearly in Fig. 5. Below the eye 14, the keeper l2 is provided with apertures 16, and at its lower end, the keeper is broadened to form a head 17dening shoulders V18. There is an opening 19 in the head 17. A loop shaped retainer 20 slides on the keeper ing united with the body 1 by means of sep 12, between the shoulders 18 on the one hand, and the eye 14 on'the other hand.

The upper end of the front strip 4 is reduced in width t0 form a ton e 21. The tongue 21 extends behind the head 17 and outwardly through the opening 19, the upper end of the tongue being overlapped on theV forward face of the keeper 12. The upper end of the tongue 21 is provided with a rearwardly extended inger 22, adapted to be engaged in the apertures 16 of the keeper 12. When the retainer 20 is shoved downwardly against the shoulders 18, the retainer receives the upper end of the tongue 21 and houses the same, the linger 22 being retained in one of the apertures 16. By sliding the retainer 2O upw-ardly, olf the upper end of the tongue 2l, the nger 22 may be swung backwardly out of the opening 1.9, and the lid 2 may be swung backwardly with the link 9, the head 17 bemg carried upwardly'off the upper` end of the keeper 12. Y

The device forming the subject matter o this application includes, briefly stated, a

' first member 7; a keeper 12'pivoted at 15 to 21 to hold the finger 22 in the aperture 16, the shoulder 1S forming a stop for the retainer.
