To all whom it may concern: a
Be it knownthat I, OHARLLER. SNYDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sweat-Band- Protectors, of which the following is a specification.
The sweatbands of hats being made of relatively soft porous leather absorb the moisture from the head of the wearer which passes thence to the body of the hat and the outer band and frequently stains and disfigures the same. The primary object of the present invention is to provide a simply constructed non-porous device which may be readily attached to the inner face of the ordinary sweat band without change in the structure of the sweat band or other portionsof the hat.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be transferred from one hat to another, and the life of the attachment thereby extended.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims; and in the drawings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the invention- Figure 1 is a transverse sectional view of a hat with the improvement applied,

The improved device comprises a strip of non-porous material represented as a whole at 10, and preferably curved laterally at one edge as shown at 11. The member 10 is preferably curved longitudinally as shown in Fig. 4 and designed to be bent into elliptical form to correspond to and bear against the inner face of the sweat band, the latter being represented as a whole at 12. The member 10 is formed of suitable non-porous material such as celluloid or the like which will resist the passage of moisture and elfectually protect the hat. The member 10 is of suflicient width to completely cover the Specification of Letters Patent;

Thelower depending edge of the member 10'is curved outwardly,so that it presents nosharp edges to the head of the wearer, and likewise prevents any of the moisture from passing beneath the attachment an against the sweat band.
By this means the sweat band is eflectually protected from perspiration while at the same time the presence of the attachment does not cause discomfort or annoyance to the wearer.
The member 10 is preferably detachably secured to the sweat band near its upper edge by suitable fastening devices, such as eyelets or McGill paper fasteners represented at 13, which fasteners pass through openings 13 from the upper edge of the member 10 and engage the sweat band 12, as shown. Any required number of the fastening devices may be employed and spaced at suitable distances. The terminals of the member 10 overlap and the overlapped portions are provided with simply constructed coupling or uniting means. For the purpose of illustration one terminal of the member 10 is provided with a plurality of slots 14 in spaced relation and the other terminal provided with a plurality of tongues 15 likewise in spaced relation, and preferably formed by curved clefts as shown. One or more of the tongues15 are designed to be passed through a corresponding number of the slots 14: to prevent the collapse of the member 10, when disposed within the hat, and by providing a plurality of the slots and tongues, the member 10 may be adjusted to fit different sizes of hats. By longitudinally curving the member 10 the latter will conform to the curvature of the sweat band so that its lower curved edge will follow the lines of the sweat band, and by extending a slightid'istance below the lower line of the sweat band will effectually prevent any of the perspiration from coming in contact with the sweat band. The attachment completely isolates the sweat band from the head, so that the perspiration will not come in contact with the porous material of the sweat band and be carried thence to the body of the hat and its binding ribbon.
Having thus described the invention,
what isclaimed as new is: I
1. An attachment for a hat comprising a band of non-porous material, and means for adjustably coupling the ends of the band, whereby the same is adapted to be disposed within the sweat band of the hat.
2. An attachment for a hat comprising a circumferentially adjustable band of 'nonporous material adapted to be disposed within the sweat band thereof with its lower edge curved outwardly to conform substantially to the contour of the sweat band and depending below the line of the same means adapted to attach the non-porous band at its upper edge to the sweat band and means for adjustably coupling the terminals 6f the band.
