Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 29, 19M).
Application led December 10, 1918. Serial No. 266,027.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J neus SANCHEZ GUER- HERO, citizen of the United Mexican States, residing at Tlajomulco, Estado de Jalisco,
Mexico, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Riding-Saddles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to a riding saddle which is elastically suspended to allow a reciprocating movement both up and down as well as forth and back, the ob-ject of which is to give comfort to the rider, and lessening the injury to the animal on bad mountain roads.
In the accompanying drawing which shows the saddle in a perspective View, one side being broken away of the saddle skirt, (1) represents two end brace members the ends of which are rigidly fastened to the four posts (2) the upper ends of which project through the staples (3) of the bridge pieces (4) resting on the spiral springs (5) surrounding the posts (2). Pads (6) are attached to the brace members (1) and the three intermediate brace members (7 The bridge pieces (4) are connected by two rods (8) and from the arch portions (9) of said bridge pieces (4) springs (10) are suspended and attached by their lower ends to the suspension truss rods (11) from which connecting members (12) extend to be riveted to the saddle tree (13) which is fastened to the saddle iiaps (24). 'A leather strap (14) is fastened at one end to the front brace member (7) and the other end to the ratchet axle (15) which is supported on the inside of the saddle bow (16) through which one end of the axle projects and having connected thereto a handle (17), while at the opposite end of the axle (15) a ratchet wheel (18) is attached, in order to be engaged by the pawl (19).
Another strap (20) tied at one end to the rear brace member (7 passes through the eye-piece (21) below the ponnnel (22) and under the rod (23), which spans between two opposite flat bars (13) of the saddle tree, and then finally connects to the axle (15).
The forward ends of the truss rods (11) are formed as a package carrier (25). The girths, not shown, to fasten the pack saddle to the back of the animal may be attached to the brace members (1).
The tension of the spiral springs (5) is adjusted by turning the handle (17) whereby the straps (1 4) and (20) are wound on the axle (15) and the relative movement of the riding saddle is determined.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is:
A riding saddle comprising a pack saddle, vertically projecting posts attached to said pack saddle, bridges resiliently supported for reciprocation on said posts, a horizontal saddle frame suspended in springs from said bridges, a riding saddle rigidly mounted on said saddle frame, and straps adjustably connected between the pack saddle and the riding saddle. l
In testimony whereof I have aiiixed my signature.
JESUS SANCHEZ GUERRERO.
