TOY GUN.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 22, 19119.
Application filed August 16, 1918. Serial No. 250,185.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWIN H. L. Enc- LUND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Muskegon, in the county of Muskegon and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Toy Gun, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a toy cannon, one of its objects being-to provide a cannon so mounted that when the toy is pushed in one direction the cannon will be raised and lowered successively, the initial portion of each downward movement resulting in the release of a noise producing device.
A further object is to provide a toy of this kind which is simple in construction and can be sold cheaply.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims, it being understood that various changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
In the. accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawings Figure 1 is a side elevation of the toy cannon within an opening 7 which extends through the carriage 1 and through a block 8 on the carriage, the upper end of the rod being secured fixedly to the rear portion of a toy cannon 9. Another block 10 is secured to the carriage and is connected by links 11 to the rear portion of the cannon.
A bracket 12 is secured to the bottom of the carriage and has a finger 13 extending a spring strip 11 the free end of which projects into the path of the crank 5. A handle 15 is secured to one end of the carriage.
The toy can be propelled by pushing or pulling the handle 15 and as the wheels at rotate the axle 3 will be caused to revolve thus moving the toy cannon 9 upwardly and downwardly, the links 11 at the same time stretching out or folding as shown. During the downward movement of the toy cannon and the corresponding movement of the crank 5, the spring strip 14 will be pushed out of normal position and will snap back against the finger 13 producing a noise.
lVhat is claimed is 1. The combination with a wheel supported crank axle mounted for rotation and a carriage'thereon, of a rod'slidable in the car riage and connected to-the crank of the axle, a toy cannon attached to the upper end of the rod, and sound producing means actuated by the crank during the rotation of the axle.
2. lhe combination with a carriage including a wheel supported crank axle, of a rod connected to the crank of the axle and slidable within the carriage, a toy cannon mounted on the rod and movable therewith, link connections between one end of the carriage and the toy' cannon, to hold the cannon against rotation. a bracket, and a spring strip normally seated against the bracket, and projecting into the path of the crank of the axle.
3. The combination with a carriage including a wheel supported crank axle mount ed for rotation, and a handle, of a rod con nected to the crank axle and adapted to be reciprocated thereby, a toy cannon attached to the rod, link connections between the cannon and the carriage for holding the cannon against rotation, a bracket, and a spring ex tending from the bracket, and into the path of the crank axle.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afiixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
EDVIN H. L. ENGLUND.
