Be it known that I, Josnrn M. Mona, a citizen of the United States, residin at Eldora, in the county of Hardin and te of Iowa, haveinvent'ed new and useful Improvemente in Door-Operating Mechanism, of which the following is a specification.
This invention xplates to door opening and closing mechanism, the same being especially designed for garage-doors although not limited to doors of such structures;
The invention has for its object to provide a novel and im roved electrically operated mechanismof e kind stated, the same em bodying a motor which is operatively connected to the door, together with a controllin means to lie-hereinafter described in detaii.

Referring specifically to the drawings, the invention is shown applied to 'a double door, but it will be understood that it is also readily applicable to a single" door. The two doors are indicated by the reference character 10. they being hingedly connected to the doorway of the garage or other building strncture,as shown at 10". The means for swinging each door comprises a longitudinally movable rod or pitman 11 connected at one end to the actuating means to be presently described, and at the other "end to a crank arm 12 having a fixed connection with in upstanding pin 13' on a double acting spring hinge 14 fastened to the hinge end of the door at the top thereof. It will therefore be seen that the door is swung open or closed ratchet cylinder 31.

At 16 is shown an electric motor supported by a suitable bracket 17 which is mounted atany convenient place above the door-way in which doors 10 operate. On the shaft 18 of the motor is a worm wheel 19which is in mesh \with a worm*20 on a shaft 21. This shaft 21 also. has a' worm wheel which is in mesh with a worm 23 on a vertical'shaft 24. On the lower end of the shaft 24 is made fast a crank arm 25 carrying a pin 25 to which one of the operating rods 11 is connected. Where two doors are used, a second crank arm 2'? will be provided for the operating rod of the other door said am being parallelto the arm 25 and connected thereto at the crank pin end thereof, with the operating rod connected to the opposite end. The two operating rodsare' therefore simultaneously actuated, their movementheing in opposite directions. D

The lever arms 35 and 37 are provided with actuating means whereby they are operated inclcpenclently, end one after the other. When the arm 35 is swung; the ratchet cylinder 33., through the pawl 33, is
given a partial rotation to close the switch,

through the pawl 34, is given a further turn to open the switch.
The lever arm 35 is o cratecl manually by means of a pull chain 3 connected to one of its outer ends. This pull chain passes through a tubular guide 43 positioned above the doorway, and leading to any convenient point for actuation.
The level arm 37 is operated automatically to open the switch and thus interrupt iho operation of the motor after the doors 10 have opened ozclosed, this being accoinplishcd by the following means.
