Description

E. HANING.
DOUBLE LIFT JACQUARD MACHINE.
APPLICATION HLED 05c. 1. 1911.
1,299,461. I Patented Apr. 8,1919.
WITNESS:
"WE/W08,
v inst HA-n'ma ERNST HANING, OF UNION, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO ADOLF T. HUSER, OF NORTH BERGEN, NEW JERSEY.
DOUBLE-LIFT JACQUARD-MAGHINE.
Toall whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNST HANme, a subjeet of the Emperor of Germany, residing at town of Union, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certam new and useful Improvements in Double-Lift Jacquard-Machines, of WlllCh the following is a specificatlon.
This invention relates to double-11ft acquard machines, 1;. e1, jacquard machines 1n which each harness cord is controlled by two hooks which so long as the end or warp thread to which they apperta1n, remalns called, reciprocate in opposite dlrections, holding the end raised until it 1s to be depressed for one Or more picks 1n the fabric. The means connecting each harness cord with its two hooks is usually a cord coupling whose upper end portion is forked so as to be attached to the two hooks and whose lower end carries a hook or the like to Which the harness cord is attached. The cord couplings-termed colletsbesides being subject to wear and therefore requiring constant attention, become twlsted and due to i this and to one branch of each collet necessarily kinking in slackening when the other is up, serious interference wlth the necessary perfect freedom of up and down movement of the lifting units prevails; moreover, by twisting and also by stretching, the collets change in length so that the alinement of the ends is disturbed and hence the harnesses cannot be used interchangeably.
The principal object ofthis invention is to provide a coupling means between each pair of complementary hooks and the corresponding harness cord whereby all these objections will be overcome, and thisI ac complish by a novel form ofcoupling device of a stiff upright member having means for attachment thereto of equivalent, and a pair of couplings freely slidable up and down on the hooked lower.
portions of said hooks.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 shows a jacquard machine in vertical section provided with the improved coupling means;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation means and the lower ends of the corresponding two hooks;
Specification of Letters Patent.
' h of member A and single vertical plane The member B penetrates its appropriate the kind in which the principal element is the harness cord, or-
of said coupling stant.
Patented Apr. 8, 1919.
Application filed December 7, 1917. Serial No. 206,068.
Figs. 4 and 5 are sectional views on line 4-4 and 55 of Figs. 2 and 3.
a is the bottom board, 6 the grid, 0 the knives and d the sets of hooks of a doublelift jacquard machine.
Preferably the im roved coupling means comprises two mem ers, upper member A and lower member B.
Upper member A is preferably composed of wire, thus being stiff bent to form upright portions or mem ers e of suitable length, laterally bent ends f on said portlons, a transverse connection 9 bet-Ween said ends, and eyes h (closed in the adaptation illustrated) at the lower ends ofsaid portions, standing side by side. Connection 9 is of a length a trifle exceeding the spacing of the adjoining upright porti0ns d d of hooks d, wherefore, since eyes it are close together, members 6 e converge downwardly.
Member B is a straight length of wire 2' having its ends formed as eyes 7' is (or equivalent) for coupling, as shown, with the eyes for attachment of .the harness cord Z.
Each coupling device so formed has the bent-off end portions f-of its members e penetrating one of the two complementary hooks d d, so that the device hangs pendent, the coupling it affords at one such part where a laterally bent end 7 occurs'being adapted to move up and down with one hook while the other such coupling is perfectly free to slide on the part d of the other hook, the device as a whole being kept to practically a of action at all times.
hole in the bottom board, being sufliciently long so that its eyes j 70 will not interfere with the same in the rise and fall of the coupling means. 1
The construction being such, as explained, that when one of a complementary pair of hooks rises and falls the up and down motion of the coupling device occurs with perfect freedom with respect to the other hook and without shifting out of its normal vertical plane; no interference of any character can occur and the alinement of the ends, once efiected, remains absolutely con- ,Further, no undue space being required in' respect to the form or manner of operation of the device, a greater number lifting units can be employed than is usual in double-lift jacquard machines. The
' the eyes it each into a plane oblique to the vertical plane of action of the connection 9, as shown in Fig. 5.
'Having thus ully described my lnvention,
ters Patent is:
1. In combination, with the depending hooked portions of a complementary pair of hooks of a double-lift jacquard machine, a harness cord coupling device including a pair of stiff upright portions, harness cord attaching means at the lower end thereof,
said upright portions having their upper ends bent laterally and penetrating said hooked portions, and a transverse rigid conwhat I claim and desire'to secure by Letnection betweenthe bent-0E upper ends of said upright portions.
- 2. In, combination, with the depending hooked portions of a complementary pair of hooks of a double-lift jacquard machine, a harness cord coupling device includin a pair of stiff upright portions having t eir upper ends bent laterally and penetrating said hooked portions, a transverse rigid connection between said ends and-harness cord attaching means at thelower end of one of said portions.
3. In combination, with the depending hooked portions of a complementary pair of 40 hooks of a double-lift jacquard machine, a harness cord coupling device including a pair of stifi' upright portions having their upper ends bent laterally and penetrating said hooked portions, a transverse rigid connection between said ends and side-by-side eyes at the lower ends of said portions arranged in a plane oblique to the vertical plane of said transverse portion.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
