construction and arrangement in a mechanism of this character.
For a consideration of what I believe to be novel and my invention, attention is directed to the accompanying specification and claims appended hereto.

Referring to the drawing, .5 indicates the cylinder and 6 the. )iston of an internal combustion engine. n the head of the cylinder is arranged an'air starting valve 7 which opens lnwardly and is normally held closed by a spring 8 located between a head 9 on the outer end of valve stem 10 and valve casing 11. Compressed air for starting the. engine is admitted to valve casing 11 through a passage 12 with which connects a pipe 13 which leads to a controlling valve 14 provided with an operating handle 14. Valve 14 is arranged to connect pipe 13 to a pipo 15 which leads from a suitable supply of compressed air (not shown) or .to atmos; phere by way of opening 16. ,The head 9 on valve stem 10 is pi'votally connected by a link .17 to one end of a lever 18, the. other end of which is connected to an actuating rod 19 which tern'iinates adjacent a cam shaft 20 and which has on its end a roller 21 adapted to be engagedfbv a cam 22 on cam shaft 20.

In the dra\ving,- the controlling valve 14 is shownin such position that pipe 13 is not connected to pipe 15. Spring 25 holds pis-' ton 23 against stop shoulder 29 thus maintaining roller 21 out of the path of cam 22. This is the inoperative position. If new it is desired tocstart the engine, operating handle- 14 is moved from the inoperative position to the starting position which results in connecting pipe 15 to pipe 13. The compressed starting air then flows through passage 12 to the valve 7 and also through pipe 26 to cylinder 24 where it acts on piston 23 to force the. same downward and bring roller 21 into the path of cam, .22 where it will lie-held during the starting operation. \Vhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
1. In an internal combustion engine, the combination of an air starting valve, a cam shaft, a cam thereon, means through which the cam actuates the air starting valve, said means including a lever and a roller, and a movable fulcrum for the lever which is moved by starting air to bring the roller into operative relation to the cam.
2. In an internal combustion engine, the combination of an air starting valve, a cam shaft, a cam thereon, a lever connected to the valve, a rod connected to the lever and terminating adjacent the cam, and a movable fulcrum for the lever which is actuated by starting air to move the end of the rod into operative relation to said cam.
