Be it known that I, WILLARD R. WALKER, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, in the State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Dish-Cleaners, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to certain improvements in dish-cleaners, the object of which is to provide a more expeditious and samtary means for simultaneously removing and concentrating loose refuse from crockery, glassware and other culinary dishes and receptacles with-a minimum liability of breakage.

Another object is to provide means conveniently accessible to the refuse receptacle for supportingthe articles before and after cleansing. I

Other objects and uses relating to specific parts of the device will be brought out in the following description.

In the drawings- Figure 1 is a perspective view of an apparatus embodying the features of my invention.

Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical sectional view of the upper portion of the apparatus, including the hopper and adjacent portion of the table top, the upper portion of the refuse receptacle being shown by dotted lines.

'As illustrated, this apparatus comprises a tray or table top -1 mounted upon a supporting frame 2 and which rests upon the floor, and is provided with horizontal rails 3 spaced some distance from and below the top 1- for receiving and supporting a horizontal shelf 1'.

Supported upon this shelf is a refuse receptacle 5 having its upper end open and disposed in proximity to the under side of the table top or tray 1-,in registration with an opening 6 in said top.

Loosely fitted in the opening 6 for removal is a tubular chute 7 having an external annular flange 8- intermediate its ends and resting upon the upper surface of the tray. I

A hopper-shaped section 9- is providedfitted in the upper end of the tubular section 77 with its flaring upper end wholly above said tubular section to rest upon the upper edge ofthe latter.

The cylindrical portion 10 of the hopper section 9' is provided with inwardly and upwardly projecting arms '11 in uniformly spaced relation circumferentially and supporting at the center a hub '12 having a socket in its upper end for receiving and supporting a rubber buffer or equivalent cushion 13.

This buffer or cushion 13 is preferably circular in top plan and is provided with a reduced lower end frictionally fitted in the socketed member l2, the upper end thereof being enlarged and bulbous in form and projecting some distance above the horizontal plane of the upper edge of the hopper section 9, thus constituting a resilient or elastic anvil against which which jars the refuse loose therefrom, said refuse passing downwardly by gravity between the arms 11 through the chute -7- and into the underlying receptacle 5- which is concealed beneath the table top or tray 1 so that the entire apparatus always presents a clean and sanitary appearance, the tray -1 being substantially flat and provided with a marginal flange 1' to reduce the liability of accidental displacement of the dishes therefrom.

What I claim is:

1. In a device for removing refuse from dishes, the combination of a tubular chute, an underlying receptacle and an elastic buffer centrally supported in the chute and of considerably less diameter than that of the interior of said chute.

2. In a device of the character described, a chute, a resilient pad of less diameter than and alined with the opening in the chute and spaced apart from the walls of said chute to fofm a passage between the outer walls of the pad and chute, and supportimg means for the pad.

3. In e device of the character described the combination of a hopper, a socketed hub centrally supportecl in the hopper, and a pad supported in the socketed mueanrcaer.

4. In a device of the character desorihed, the combination of ehopper having inwardly 1e projecting" arms 1n spaced eeletion circumferentiefiy, a soeketed member supported by the arms, and e resilient anvil supported in the soeketed member. ,o
