POOL-TABLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 18, 1919.
Application led June 20, 1916. Serial No. 104,757.
To all whom t may concern: j
Be it known that I, HENRY ENGLEHART, a citizen of the United States, residing at Elmer, in the county of Salem and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pool-Tables, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to improvements 1n pool tables especially with reference to the provision of mirrors or reflectors under the cushion and arranged between the pocketsto aid the players.
The invention consists in the arrangement and construction of devices, hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a plan of a pool table provided with reflectors constructed and arranged in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is la detail transverse sectional view of the same.
For the purposes of this pool table is indicated at 1, shown at 2, the cushion-at 3 pockets at 4.
In accordance with my invention I provide reectors 5 which may be mirrors or may be reflectors of any suitable type and which are arranged under the cushion and between the pockets as shown.
A cue ball is indicated at 5 in Fig. l, an object ball at 6, and cue at 7.
specification, a the base being and the usual Copies of this patent may be obtained for By the provision of the reflectors between the pockets, a player is enabled to see the reflection of a pocket upon one side of the table, in one of the reflectors upon the opposite side of the table, so that the pocket into which the ball is to be bounced can be kept in sight at the time the shot is being eXecuted, enabling the player to properly judge the angle at which the object ball must strike the cushion in order to rebound and enter the pocket reflected in the mirror. Without the use of these refiectors, the player must judge the angle prior to the execution `of the shot, particularly if the cue ball is well in advance of the pocket into which the bank is to be made, so that in shooting position, the pocket is not in sight and the shot is made merely from the memv ory of the location of the pocket, due to the previous judgment of angles. I/Vith the present invention, the pockets may be kept insight until after the execution of the shot, so that the player will not have to depend upon memory of either the location of the pocket or the point at which the object ball is to strike the opposite cushion.
Having described the invention, what is claimed is:
A pool table having reflectors under the cushion and between the pockets.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
HENRY ENGLEHART.
