Be it known that I, JOSEPH F. SinoreNsKr, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Thorp, in the county of. Clark and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fountain-Pens, of which the following is a speci ficatiom This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in fountain pens and has among its objects the provision of this class of device which will be extremely dnrableias well as capable of being readilycleaned.

lVith the above general objects in view and others that wi ll become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understfoid, the same consists in the novel form, arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.

Referring more in detail to the several Aviews, the present invention includes a hollow barrel or body member 5 which is in- 45 wardly tapered at its lower end G and which is internally threaded as at 'l' at itsupper end for reception of the' metal ferrule 8. The metal ferrule 8 surrounds the base ofr an eraser 9 and connects the same to a plug 50 member' 10 which acts as a closure for the upper end of the barrel 5 when positioned as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The eraser 9v is preferably constructed so that the same is adapted or erasure of ink and may be read- 55 ily removed from the ferrule 8 when worn in 'further'obj'eet of the invention is to Specification of Letters Patent. AThe lower end 6 of the barrel 5 has a sloping wall 11 in order that the tapering penpointfsecuring member 12 may be wedged into operative position therein as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. It will be seen that, when the tapered member 12 is in position,the saine will securely retainthe pen-point- 13 within the end Gbetween the same and the member 12. Extending axially in the barrel 5 is a. rigid rod 14 having its upper end securely connected' to the underface of the plug 10 as at li-and having its lower end swiveled in the securing member 12. The lower end of the rod 14 is swiveled in the Amember 12 by en tering a socket 16 in the upper larger end of the member 1:2 and maintained, therein by means of a transverse set screw 17 which is threaded transversely through the member 172 so that its inner end engages in the annular grooveS provided in the lower end of said rod 1.4.

Should the channel 14' of member 1:2 become clogged with ink, said member 12' .is easily removed for cleaning by unser-owing the ferrule 8 b v rotation of the latter, this causing upward movement of the rod 111 and member 12, such rotation of the ferrule 8 notheing imparted to member l2 by reason of the swivel connection before described. This swivel connection is essential as the form of the member 12 will not per mit of rotation of the same in the lower end of the barrel 5. After the ferrule 8 is einl tirely unscrewed, the same may 'be removed together with the rod 14 and member l2. 105 ln case of breakage of the .member 12, the same may be renewed by removal. of the set screw 17, and it will thus be seen that the present invention provides an extremely practical form of fountain pen permitting 110 opening renewal and complete cleaning of parts. The barrel 5 may be iilled with ink through the opening 20 by pressing upon the head 22 of the valve 19 and then inserting the Small end of the usual pen filler through the 20. The usual form of 4cover 23 may be provided for the pen isusual in this class of devices.

From the foregoing description, it is believed that the construction and operation of the present invention will be readily indersto .d by those skilled in the art, and while the form of the invention herein shown and described is what is believed to be thev preferred embodiment thereof, it istvnevertheless to-be understood that. minor changes may be made in the form, combination and arrangement of parts without .de-
