UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL E. WRIGHT, OF AUGUSTA, KANSAS.
TIME-CONTROLLED CIRCUIT-BREAKER.
Application filed December 20, 1917.
To all whom it may concern:
- Be it knownfl llat I, SAMUEL E. WRIGHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Augusta, in the county of Butler, State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Time-Controlled Circuit-Breaker; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention,
such as will enable others skilled in the art' to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a time controlled circuit breaker, and one of the objects of the invention is the provision of a device of this kind particularly adapted for breaking the circuit which controls the electric lights of a show window at a predetermined time.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a time controlled switch, comprising a knife switch, and a device connected to the knife blade switch, combination with a clock mechanism with means on the alarm key thereof to actuate said device to open the switch blade at a predetermined time.
- A further object of the invention is to providean alarm mechanism, the alarm key of which is designed to move intermittently, for instance to move a ortion of its revolution, sufficient to open the switch, then stop by reason of contacting with a device connected to the switch blade, andthen when the hour and minute hands of the clock again reach the hour on which the switch blade is open, the alarm key will further rotate back to its original position, for again actuating the device connected to the switch blade.
In prabtical fields the details of construction may necessitate alterations falling within the scope. of what is claimed.
The-invention comprises further features and combination of parts' as hereinafter set forth shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a View in elevation of an alarm clock mechanism, mounted in a casing in which a knife blade switch is also mounted and arranged in a lighting circuit.
' Fig. 2 is a view in rear elevation of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line -33 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is an edge view of the casing for the alarm clock casing.
Referring more especially to the drawings 1 designates a conventional form of alarm Specification of Letters Patent.

clock, the casing of which is mounted in a rectangular frame or casing 2 and secured by screws 3 and is provided with an alarm key 4.. A circular disk 5 having an annular flange 6 is carried on the shaft 7 of the alarm key 4. The inner face of the flange 6 of the disk 5 is provided witha camming projection-8. A conventional form of mechanism (not shown) is designed to be carried in the clock casing and operated by the clock mechanism, whereby the disk 5 and the shaft on which it is mounted may be actuated orrotated intermittently. For example by this mechanism, the disk is designed to rotate, so that the projection 8 will move from the position at a to b and then stop until the time at which it stops, advances, and when the clock hands again reach this particular time, the disk 5 will again rotate until the projection 8 reaches the position at a. Sccured by screws 9 to the top .wall of the easing 2 is an insulating base plate 10. Secured to the blade terminals 11, between which the switch blade 12 is pivotally mounted as at 13. The terminals 11 are provided with a base lug 14 having a binding post 15 and a binding nut 16. Spaced terminals 17 are arrangcd at the other end of the plate '10. there being a lug 18 (which is secured to the plate 10 in any suitable manner) having a binding post 19 for the binding nut 20. A nvire or lead 21 is connected to the binding post 19 by the nut through suitable insulation bushings 96 of the casing The casing? has an abutment lug 2 7 to limit the switch blade to its open position. A lever 98 is pivoted at 29 to the plate 10 is a pair of spaced switch.
switch blade and depends downwardly and terminates in a curved cud portion 30. which overlies the flange 6 of the disk A curvcd portion 3 has a laterally c1.tcnding lug 3L engaging the inner surface of the flange 6, consequently in the path ofthc projection 8. A. spring 32 is provided and has one and connected at 33 to the roar face of the clock case and its othcr cnd connected at 34 to the lever or depending member 28. to hold the lug 31 against the inner face of the flange 6. The circuit may contain as many bulbs or electric lights as desired, thcrc having been only one shown for illustrative purposes. These electric lights or bulbs are designed for lighting show windows of stores and the like. Heretofore, the policemen on the beat or a special Watchman paid by the stores 'go by and turn ofi' the electric lights, say for instance around ten oclock at night. With this improved device the clock is set, so thatthe shaft 7 will start to rotate at 10 oclock until the projection 8 moves from a to b. The projection 8 in moving this distance will contact with the lug 31, hence pulling the lever 28 downwardly, which will in turn open the switch blade, and the blade by contacting with the lug 27 will stop in the dotted line position. When the switch blade 12 is so stopped the disk 5 will be held at rest long enough to permit the minute hand to move enough to permit the alarm to cease, and the projection 8 and the lug 31 will be on a tension, one almost in the act of passing the othen This operation will occur substantially sharp at the stroke of nine at night. The lights of the show'iwindow are consequently turned out. The next day at a substantial time after ten oolock in the day, the stopping device may again be set, and the switch closed, whereby at the roper time in the evening of the next day For instance at ten oclock, the switch blade may again open, as before set forth, and the lights turned out. w 1 j The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful is The combination with an electric circuit, of a switch member in said circuit normally closed, a stationary limiting abutment for said member, a switchactuating device, pivotally suspended from the member and be-' ing spring tensioned,'a predetermined actuated shaft, 2, disk fixed on the shaft and having an annular flange on its marginal edge, the inner circumference of said flange having a projection provided with an abrupt shoulder, the lower end of the switch actuating device being curved and overlying the marginal edge of the flange of the disk, said curved end having a lateral lug engagin the inner surface of the flange in the pat of said projection, whereby, upon revoluble movement of the shaft at a predetermined time, said projections wvill contact with the 7
