The primary object of the invention is the provision of a journal box of this character, wherein one side wall of the box has a removable section so that the journal or the axle can be taken from the box while the truck is under the car, and also the bearings can be conveniently removed when the occasion requires.
Another object of the invention is the pro vision of a Journal box of this character wherein the key for the journal bearing and 1 the latter are held in place to avoid relative displacement with respect to each other and also with respect to the box, the dust guard being mounted in the box in a novel manner and'the possibility of leakage of oil from said box is eliminated, while the removal and renewal of the bearings is facilitated.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a journal box of this character, wherein the journal axle is economically and ethciently lubricated.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a journal box of this character, which is simple in construction, possessing maximum strength and durability, assuring easy access thereto and enabling the convenient placing of the journal axle therein or its removal therefrom, and also which is inexpensive to manufacture.
The invention will be best understood from a consideration of the f following detailed description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, with the further understanding that while the drawings show a' practical form of the invention, the latter is not confined to any strict conformity with the showing of the drawings, but may be changed and modified s long as such Specification of Letters ratentlj Patentgd Bias, Application filed April 2, 1912;. changesand modifications come within the scope of the appended claims.
In the acccmpanyin drawings Figure- 1 is a si e e ovation or a journal box constructed in accordance with the invention with the arched bars and the looking key engaged therein. 7
Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view.
Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary horizontal sectional view.
