AUTOMATIC FILTER-SGRAPER SHIFTER.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 11, 1919.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that we, PAUL D. SmnYand GLEN L. HARLEY, citizens ofthe United States, residing at Goldiield, in the county of Teller and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Automatic Filter-Scraper Shifters, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to an automatic filter scraper shifter, and is designedto overcome the objectionable features of the present filter-press in general ilse, Yit being adapted for attachment to the scraper on a continuous discharge lter-press. In present-day presses, the scraper is stationary, and quickly wears out the canvas, and is itself worn into grooves by the wires of the press, which necessitates constant patching,
filing, and resultant shut-down of the ma- 3 chine.
Our present invention overcomes these defects by its means for imparting a slow, steady, endwise movement of the scraper backrand forth across the press, while requiring no additional power and no mechanical skill to attach or apply it, or to Vinsure its perfect action and operation.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a view in end elevation;
Fig. 2 is a plan view;
Fig. 3 is a sectional view through the bracket and shifting-lever or arm; and
Fig. 4 is a sectional view through the extension-shaft coupling.
A, represents the side end of the filterpress frame, to which our scraper shifter is attached. The numerals 1 and 2 represent brackets secured to said side end of the filter-press frame by bolt-screws or other means, and 3 is a brace similarly attached and connected to the bracket.
The numeral 4 represents the shifting arm in the form of a bell-crank lever, pivoted at its center to the brackets 1 and 2 and brace 3 by a pin or bolt 5. This arm or lever 4 is preferably actuated by means of the eccentrically placed wrist-pin 6, on the end of the lter-press shaft 7, through the medium of a connecting-rod 8, which is pivotally connected with the outer end of said arm or lever 4. This connecting-rod may be variously constructed, and preferably is made in two parts, connected by a screw and nut, whereby it may be made adjustable or extensible, according to the requirements and the length of stroke desired to be imparted to the scraper.
The numeral 9 is the extension-shaft to the scraper S, it having sliding connection Ythrough the sides of the filter press-frame and it is reciprocated through the rocking motion of the arm or lever 4, actuated by the filter-press-shaft 7 through the extensible connecting rod 8.
The one end of the shifting-arm or lever is connected to the extension-shaft 9 in any approved manner, as for instance through the coupling-sleeve 10, which is held adjustably on the extension-shaft 9 by a set-screw 11. This coupling-sleeve 10 has a mortise 12 therein, in which the tenoned end 13 of the shifting arm or lever operates in the form of a ball and socket joint. A couplingcollar 14 is connected with the opposite end of the shaft 9 by set-screws, and affords a means of coupling thereto the scrapershaft.
While our description has been confined strictly to the illustrated form of our invention, it is obvious that it might take other forms, more or less modified, the essential Vby to rock the bell cranklever and reciprocate the scraper.
2. The combination with a filter press frame and an extension shaft carrying a scraper and slidably supported in the sides of the lter press frame, of a bellcrank scraper, anti means for regulating the length lever detachably connected With said eXtenofthe scraper stroke.
Sionshaft,a.connecting-rod,extending from In testimony whereof- We afHX Vour Ysignathebell crank lever to the lter Vloress shaft tures. Y f i and reeprocated thereby, whereby to rock PAUL D. SIDEY. Y the bell crank lever and reciprocate the l Y GLEN L. HARLEY.
