To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, JOHN H. Ross, a citizen oi the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of lt'lissouri. have invented certain new and useful lniprovements in Molds for Casting Vent-Pipe .lilashing 's, of which the follow ing is a specification.
My invention relates to a mold for casting vent pipe fiashings in one piece, and my object is to provide a mold of this character wherein vent pipe flashings may be produced more quickly and econon'lically than heretofore.
' Heretoiore, it has been customary to form the tube and the flat sheet of vent pipe fiaslr ings separately and then solder or otherwise secure them together. Such procedure is expensive as it involves considerable time and labor and the product is not of uniform quality owing to defective or leaky joints being formed between the tubes and the fiat sheets.
' By the use of my mold the product is cast in one piece, preferably of lead, and comes out of the mold ready for use, thereby savv ing the old two-piece product together.

ln carrying. out the invention, it employ two main inen'ibers 1 and 2 reinforced by marginal flanges 4 and .5, and short intermediate flanges 3 and 6. respectively. The main nninber is also provided at its inner face with bottom and side flanges 7, which constitu the boundary for three sides of c space between the adjacent me: s l and 2. Feet 20 extend down from the ears is to provide a support for the mold when the same is raised to vertical position to receive the molten metal. The pivot 16 may also act as a support for the mold and with that end in view it is extended longitudinally beyond the ears 1%, as disclosed on Figs. 1 and i.- a suitable frame, not shown, being provided to support the pivot 16 and the main member 1 when the mold is in use.

The front end of the core 26 is providedwith an external" marginal flange 30, adapted to fit snugly'within an opening 31 in the mainmeinber 24 As disclosed by Fig.
3, the tubular protuberance 22, the core 26 and its flange 30Ftaper downwardly. This construction permitsthe core 26 and its flange 30to engage the flange 24 and the' surrounding wall of the openingBl, respectively, and thus limit the inward movement of the core 26. It also permits the core 26 to be readily released from the tubular por tlon of the casting and gives sufficient taper to said tubular portion to permit it to be readily withdrawn from the tubular space 33., between the interior of the tubular protuberance 22 and the exterior of the core 26.

The shaft 47 is pro vided at its ends with fixedly-mounted eccentrics 50, having eccentric pins 51 adapted to engage keepers 52' fixed to opposite sides of the main member'l.
53 designates a link pivotally-connected at its ends to the hand crank 45 and a crank 54, which latter is fixed upon a shaft 55 rock- 63 and 64 designate handles at the upper portions of the main members 1 and 2, respectively, whereby the same may be opeued and closed.
In practice, the mold is supported in up right position and the main members 1 and 2 are firmly locked together in closed position by swinging the hand crank 45 downwardly to the positiondisclosed by Fig. 3. As the hand crank 45 is swung downwardly, it, through the intermediacy of the interven ing parts, rocks the eccentric pins 51 and into engagement with the hook- shaped terminals 65 and 66 of thekeepers 52 and 62, respectively, and forces the flanges-7 of the main member 2 tightly against the inner face of the main member 1. The core 26 is then forced inwardly until its rear terminal and flange 30 are firmly seated in the flange 24, and the wall of the surrounding opening 31, respectively, in the main member 2. This is accomplished by raising the lever 35 to the position disclosed by Fig. 3. As the lever 35 moves upwardly, it through the intermediacy of the intervening parts, forces the eccentric pins 40 against the edges 70 of the slots 41, and forces the shaft 36 and the bearings 37 toward the main member '1 and thus firmly seats the core 26, as above described. As the core 26 moves inwardly its flange 31 is guided by the beveled ends 6 of the short flanges 6, so that it will be properly seated. The metal is then poured into the gate 11, where it is divided by the spreader 10, which causes it to flow down at opposite sides of the core26 and fi1l the lower portion of the space 9 before the tubular-space 33 and the upper portion of said space 9 are filled with metal. Thus a good casting free from blow-holes is assuredcient leverage is afforded to readily release the core 26 from. the casting as above described. The main member 2 is then imlocked from the main member 1 by swinging the hand crank 45 upwardly, which, through the intermediacy of the intervening parts, causes the eccentric pins 1 to rock into engagement with the edges 74 of the keepers 52, whereby sufficient leverage is obtained to pry the member 2 away from the member 1 and the casting. This operation also rocks the eccentric pins'60 out of engagement with the keepers 62, so that the lower portion of the member 2 is free t swing open. The handles 63 and 64 are then grasped and the main member 2 is swung 0 en far enough to permit ready removal o the castin from the member 1. From the foregolng description, it is parent that I have produced a mold wherein vent pipe flashings can be quickly cast in one piece, and while I have shown and described:
the preferred form of my invention, I re serve the right to make such changes in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as properly fall within the spirit and scope of the claims.
Having thus described my invention, what,
I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patcut, is:

1. In a mold of the character described,
two main members adapted to fit together and having a sheet-like space between them, a gate leading from the exterior of said members to the said space, a tubular protuberance projecting from one of the main members, and a core operably-moun'ted on the other main member and adapted to ex- -tcnd into the tubular protuberance, a tubupad exterior of said members to the said space,
a tubular protuberance projecting from one of the mam members, and a core 0 erablymounted on the other main mem er'and adapted to extend into the tubular protuberance. a tubiilar space being formed between the protuberance and said core and communicating with the sheet-like space between the tWo main members.
3. In a mold of the character described,

In a mold of the character described, two main members adapted to fit together and having a sheet-like space between them, means on said main members whereby they may be locked together and forced apart, hinge-like means operably-connecting said members together so that they may be opened and closed, a gate leading from the exterior or said members to the said space, a-
spreader in said gate, a tubular protuberfrom one of the main members, and a core operablymounted on the other main member and adapted to extend into the tubular protuberance, a tubular space being formed between the protuberance and said core and communicating wit the sheet-like space between the two main members.
In a mold of the character described, two main members adapted to fit together and having a sheet-like space between them, a gate leading from the exterior of sai members to the said space, a tubular protubcrance projecting from one of the main members, a core operably-mounted on the other main member and adapted to extend into the tubular protuberance and said core and communicating with the sheet-like space between the two main members and eccentric means for adjusting the core longitudinally of the tubular protuberance.
6. In a mold of the character described,
two main members adapted to fit together and having a sheet-like space between them,
from the exterior of said a gate leading a tubular promcmbers to the said space,
tubcrance projecting from one of the main members, a core operably-mounted von the other main member and adapted to extend into the tubular protuberance and said core and communicating with the sheet-like space between the two main members, a shaft journalcd at one end ofthe core, eccentric meansfixed to said shaft, means on the adjacent main member and engaging said eccentric means, and means for rocking the shaft to effect longitudinal adjustment of the core relative to the tubular protuberance through the intermediacy of said eccentric means and the engaging means. 7. In a mold of the character described,
two main members adapted to fit together and having a sheet-like space between them, a gate leading from the exterior of said members to the said space, a tubular protuberance' projecting from one of the main members, acore operably-mounted on the other main member and adapted to extend into. the tubular protuberance, a tubular space being formed between the protuberance and said core and communicating with the sheet-like space between the two main members, a shaft journaled at one end of the core, eccentric means fixed to said shaft, slotted lugs fixed to the adjacent main member and engaging said eccentricmeans, and a hand lever fixed to the shaft to rock the same and effect longitudinal adjustment of the core relative to the tubular protuberance through the intermediacy of the eccentric means and the slotted lugs;

In a mold of'the character described, two main members adapted to fit together and having a sheet-likespace between them, a, gate leading from the exterior of said members to the said space, a tubular protuberance projecting from bne of the, main members, a core operably-mounted on the other main member and adapted to extend into the tubular protuberance, a tubular space being formed between the protuberance and said core and communicating with the sheet-like space between the two main members, a shaft journaled on one of the main members, eccentric means on said shaft, means on the opposing main member adapted to be engaged by said eccentric means,-

10. In a mold of the character described, two main members adapted to fit together and having a sheetlilrc space between them,
withina corresponding opening a gate leading from the exterior of said members to the said space, a tapered tubular protuberance projecting from one of the main members and provided at its reduced end with an internal flange, a; tapered core operably-mounted on the other main member and adapted to extend into the tubular protuberance and have its reduced terminal fit snugly within said internal flange, a; tubular space being formed between the protuberance and saidcore and communicating with the sheet-like space between the two main members, and a tapered flange at the large terminal of the core adapted to fit snugly in the ad- ]acent main member. 11. In a mold of the character described, two main members, marginal flanges on the face of one member and adapted to abut the ace of the companion member and leavea sheetdike space between said faces, a gate leading from the exterior of said members to the said space, a tubular protuberance projecting from one of the main members, and a core operably-mounted on the other main member and adapted to extend intoethe tubular protuberance, a tubular space being formed between the protuberance and 'said core and communicating with the sheet-like space between the two main members.
