DIE-s'rocx.
yWarren, in the countyfof- Trumbull and State of Ohio, haveinzvented Va certain new and useful Improvementi-n Die-Stocks, of
which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had companying drawings..fA n,
This invention relates'todie stocks vof the type lwherein the cutting l chasers occupy fixed positions in operation, but are adjustable for dili'erentsizes of pipe to bel cut. A
t0 the ac- 'suitable guiding deviceffis, provided,` also adjustable for diiferentizes of pipe. The invention is concernedf'withmeans for adrjustingthe chasers andguides for the different sizes and for locking them in adjusted positionthe object beingto provide such characteristicsin a form: which shall be simple, positive and easily operable. 'The inventionfis hereinafter more 'fully described and its essential characteristics set out in the l claims.
In the drawings, Figurel is a planof a die stock embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a central Across sectlon 'of the same as indicated by the line 2-2on" Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a perspective of the frame member which carries the chasers and'guides'; Fig. `4 is 'a cross section as indicated by thelin'e 4-4 on Fig. 1; Figs. 5 Vand 6 are sectional views on planes parallel withFig.-1 lookin in" opposite directions to show the scrolls or operating the guides and chasers respectively; the planes of these views being indicated by the 7 and 8 are perspectives of one of the 'chasers and one of the gui de blocks employed in the embodimeut shown.
What may be called the frame of my die stock consists of a` rotatable member prefer# ably yof the form shown iny Fig. 3, having ra'- dial recesses for the chasers and guides. This member is designated '10;l 'It is preferably a single integral 'casting'i'pbut` may be described asl made up of the "followingparts, namely: ,An `inner sleeve portion 11 lslightly larger than the external diameter of the largest pipe to be cut, anouter wall or sleeve 12 concentric with the sleeve 1l, an annular transverse web13 connecting the inner and Specification of Letters Patent.

a radius of the structure and extending between the inner and outer Wall. Beside the parts mentioned are tWo tubular extensions 1 5 on diametrically opposite sides oli` the structure, for a .'purpose hereinafter explained.
The chasers extend radially and are mounted in the housing provided by the webs 14 and' the annular web `13. These chasers are designated 20 and may have the usual cutting teeth on their inner edges. Theyare also` shown as provided with lugs 21 adapted to engage in grooves in a scroll plate, the rotation: of which shifts the chasers The scroll plate for the chasers is designated 30. It hasa central opening adapted to seat over the/projecting ortion ofthe inner cylindrical wall l1 an has scroll or cam grooves 3l adapted to` receive the lugs 21A of the chasersff- This scroll plate isstiiiened on 'its outer'side by an annular reinforcing web 33 andinclined radial webs 34. The scroll plate lbeing journaled on the central sleeve 11, it follows that the rotation of rality of bars 40 arranged radially about the axis of the pipe and adjustable in and out by a rotatable cam plate 50; This cam plate has a central opening by which it is journaled on the extension 17 of the `inner sleeve 11. The plate is shown as provided with cam ribs 52 and 53 which engage in notches 44 yin the guides 40. Each cam rib 52 or 53 extends substantially half way about the cam plate and the radial distance between the inner# most portion of one rib and the outermost portion ofthe other rib substantially equal with the distance between the notches in a guide bar.y
It results from the above construction that if the cam plate 50 be rotated aboutits axis, the ribs serve to force the blocks 40 in or out radially: Furthermore, if the platey said frame,
meansxfor forcingthe. clamp into engage ment with both cam plates.
:Afb-Ina. die stock, thecombination of a frame, a set of chasers carriedl thereby, a set of guide blocks carried thereby, a pair of cam"l platesfor operating the chasers and guide blocks respectively, each cam plate having a beveled edge, an extension on the frame, a clamp mounted on the extension and having a pair of beveled jaws overhanging the cam plates, and a nut mounted on the extension and adapted to bear against the clamping plate.
5 In a die stock, the combination of a frame, chasers and guide bars slidably mounted therein, a pair of cam plates on opposite sides of the frame for moving the chasers and guide bars respectively, a pair ofhandle extensions projecting from opposite sides of the frame, clamps for the cam plates slidably mounted on said handle extensions, and nuts screwing onto the exterior of the handle extensions for operating the slidable clamps.
6. In a die stock, the combination of a frame, a set of chasers mounted therein, a set of guide blocks mounted therein, a pair of cam plates for operating the chasers and guide blocks respectively, each cam plate having a beveled edge. a movable clamp hav` ing a pair of inwardly beveled jaws adapted to overhang and engage both cam plates a second clamp having one inwardly beveled jaw which overhangs the chaser operating cam plate and is adapted to clamp it without clamping the guide bar cam plate, and means for operating the two clamps.
7. In a die stock, the combinationof a frame, a set of chasers mounted therein, a set of guide blocks mounted therein, a pair of cam plates for operating the chasers and guide blocks respectively, a pair of extensions for the frame on diametrically opposite sides, a pair of clamps slidably mounted on the extensions for locking the cam plates and a pair of operating nuts mounted on the extensions and bearing against the respective clamps.
8. In a die stock, the combination of a frame, a set of chasers mounted therein., a set of guide blocks mounted therein, a pair of cam plates for operating the chasers and guide blocks respectively, a pair of extensions Jfor the frame in diametrically opposite sides and adapted to carry the operating handles, a. pair of clamps loosely slidable on the extensions. one of said clamps adapted to engage beth cam plates and the other clamp only one cam plate, and a. pair of operating nuts mounted on the extensions and'- bearing against the respective clamps.4
In a die stock, the combination of a frame, a set'of chasers mounted therein, a
set of guidel blocks mounted therein, a pair. ot cam plates for operating the chasers and guide blocks respectively, each cam plate having a. beveled edge, a movable clamp having a pair of inwardly beveled jaws adaptedto overhang and engage both cam plates, a second clamp having one inwardly beveled jaw which overhangs the Chaser operating cam plate and is adapted to clamp it Without clamping the guide bar cam plate,
and means for operating the two clamps.
