APPLICATION FILED on. 6. m1.

INVENTOR WITN SSES XI 4:
ATTORNEY ALBA C.
BOOTH, OF BURLINGTON, VERMONT.
NAME-PLATE FOR RUBBEBS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 21, 1919.
Application filed October 6, 1917. Serial No. 195,139.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALBA C. BOOTH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Burlington, in the county of Ghittenden and State of Vermont, have invented new and useful Improvements in Name-Plates for Rubbers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in rubbers and especially with reference to the provision of name plates for attachment to rubbers and bearing the name of the owner of the rubbers, so that the rubbers can be readily identified and 'to prevent the loss thereof or their being taken by mistake by some other person than the owner, the object of the invention being to provide simple and inexpensive means whereby any plates or other identifying devices may be readily attached to rubbers and arranged and exposed on the inner side of the sole, in the instep, where the name plate can be readily seen and where the wear on the rubbers is slight.
The invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
In the acompanying drawings Figure 1 is an elevation, partly in section, of a rubber provided with means for holding a name plate on the inner side of and I at the instep portion of the sole, andconstructed and arranged in accordance with my invention.
.fFi'g. 2 is a detailed plan of the same.
Fig. 3 is a detailed transverse sectional view of the same.
The rubber, indicated at 1, may be of any suitable construction and is provided with the usual sole 2 and with the lining 3 on the inner or upper side of the sole.
In accordance with my invention I provide the lining, in that portion thereof of the instep, with a sight opening 4 of suitable dimensions, and which is here shown as of oblong rectangular form, but which may be of any suitable shape. This sight opening is covered by a transparent pane 5, of celluloid is secured at points around three sides of inner sole, so that or other suitable-material which the sight opening, to the under side of the sole lining. The rear end of the pane is slightly spaced from the corresponding end of the sight opening, as at 6 to form a trans verse slot 7 through which a plate, card or tag 8 bearing the name, or the name and address, of the owner of the rubbers may be passed, so that the said' name or other identifying plate may be arranged between the sole and the lining and under the pane'an exposed to view through the pane and the sigh't opening.
Each rubber of a pair will be provided with one of my improved name or identifying plates and owing to the location thereof in the instep, the same is conspicuously exposed to view and the ownership of the rubbers is clearly established, so that mistakes may be readily avoided in the use of the rubbers and persons prevented from mistakingly using rubbers other than their own.
I call the rubbers thus provided with my improved a name plates or identifying devices Autographic Rubbers. It w1ll be understood that the practical embodiment of my invention involves only 'a very inex pensive construction of the sole lining or the same may be readily produced at slight cost, and it will be also understood that the name plate may be readily placed in the rubber by the owner.
While I have herein shown and described my invention I would have it understood that changes may be made in theform, proportion and construction of the several parts, without departing from the spirit of my-invention, and within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, I claim z- A rubber having a lining provided with a sight opening anda transparent pane coveriug the sight opening and terminating short ofone end thereof, thereby providing a slot at said end of the opening for the insertion of an identifying card or plate under the pane and for exposure through the sight opening.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
ALBA G. BOOTH.
