Description

WASHABLE SUPPER.
APPLICATION FILED APR. 17. 191B.

ARTHUR HALE, or BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, AND noBnRT ,H. NEw'ELnoF MEDINA, NEWYORK. 4 I
' WASHAIBLE smrrnn.
I ROBERT H. Nam, both citizens of the United States, respectively residing at Baltimore and Medina, in the counties of Baltie more City and Orleans and Statesof Maryland and New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Washable Slippers; and We dohereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact descrip tion of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to whichit appertains to make and use the same. 7
This invention relates to washable slippers and has for its object to provide an article of this character which will be com paratively inexpensive to construct, very easy to wash, and more comfortable in use than those heretofore proposed.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel details of construction and combination of parts more fully hereinafter disclosed and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification in which like numerals designate like partsin all the views Figure 1 is a diagrammatic longitudinal .sectional view of a washable slipper made in accordance with this invention;
Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. 1 showing the parts in their partially assembled relation; and V Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
1 indicates any suitable washable upper but preferably of a loosely woven crash-like material, and 2 any suitable outer sole of a washable material.
3 represents a washable reinforcing strip sewed to the rear edge 4 of the upper 1, and 5 a similar washable strip stitched to sa1d upper and sole, and serving to unite the same as illustrated. It will be observed that I the strips 3 and 5 meet at the points 6, as
best illustrated in Fig. 3, but that the reinforcing strip 5 continues around the heel portion, and from said points 6 serves to secure the edges of the outer sole 2 to the edges of an inner sole 8. Said inner sole 8 is not only secured at its edges to said outer sole 2-, around the heel portion as just described, but it is further secured at its edges for a short Specification of Letters Patent.

1 as is indicated by the numeral 9, and the dotted lines in Fig. 3.
Forwardofthe points 9, the inner sole -8 is left free, as best shown in Fig. 2, and therefore, between said points 9 and the extremerear or heel portion of the slipper there is formed what may be'termed a rear pocket '10, into which may be readily slipped the rear end portion 12 of the stifiening or inner sole member 13 as shown. The forward end portion 14 of said stiffening mem-- her is readily slippedinto the pocket 15 7 formed by bending over, or securing the p1ece 16 to said inner sole member; and the edges of said piece 16 are secured to the edges of the member 8 by the washable strip 17 while the extreme rear edge of the member 16 is finished ofi by the strip 18 as Shown.
The parts except the stiffening member 13 being all made from a readily washable fabric material, and the said stiffening member itself being readily detachable and attachable, it is evident that slippers made in accordance with this invention may be washed as conveniently as any other article of wearing apparel. Further, it is preferred to makethe stiffening member 13 of a fabric material having a washable, or ce]lu-- loid like surface, so that it too may be kept at all times clean and sanitary.
What isclaimed is 1. In readily washable footwear the combination of an upper member; an outer sole member secured to said upper member; an inner sole member secured for a portion of its length to the heel portion of said outer sole member to provide a pocket and a free forward end, said inner sole member also providing a continuous, unbroken, surface for the foot of the wearer from its heel to its toe portions; asecond pocket carried by said free end; and a flexible readily attachable and detachable stifl'ening member lo-' cated in said pockets between said inner and outer sole members, substantially scribed.
as de- 2. In readily washable foot-wear. the come 7 bination of an upper member; an outer sole member secured to said upper member; an inner sole member secured for a portion of its'length to the heel portion of said outer sole member providing a pocket and a free forward end; a second pocket carried by said free end; and a readily attachable and detachable stiffening member carried-by said pockets, substantially as described.
3. In readily washable footwear the combination of an upper member; an outer sole member Wider at its front portion than at its rear portion secured to said upper member; an inner sole member of substantially the. same contour as said outer sole member secured for a portion of its length to the heel portion of said outer sole member to provide a pocket and a free forward end, said inner sole member also providing a continuous,
unbroken, surface for the foot of the wearer from its heel to its toe portions; a second pocket carried by said free end; and a fleXi-' ble readily attachable and detachable stifiening member of substantially the same contour as said inner sole member located in said pockets between said inner and outer sole members, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof We affix our signatures.
