ROBERT D. BALDWIN, OE CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, AssIeNon To II. Pv. EAwLINes WALL PAPER oo., or CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION.
WALLLPAPEE SAMPLE-CASE. y
Application filed October 12, 1916. 'Serial No. 125,316.
To all fav/1.0m 'it may concern.'
lBe it known that I, ROBERT D. BALDWIN, a citizen of the `United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wall- Paper Sample-Cases, of which the follow in is a specification.
y invention relates to improvements 1n wall paper sample cases, and has for its 4 scribed and claimed.
The invention will be the best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a wall paper sample case embodying the invention,
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the case eX- posingI the side opposite to that seen in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged vertical section taken on line w-m of Fig. 2, and
iFig. 4 is a horizontal section on line y-y/ of Fig. 1.
The preferred form of construction, as illustrated in the drawings, comprises a substantially rectangular case open at both ends. Said case is formed of two similar sections 1 and 2, the section 1 consisting of a side wall 3 and bottom wall 4, said walls 3 and 4 being hingedly connected together. The section 2 comprises a side wall 5 and a top wall 6, said walls 5 and 6 being hingedly connected together. The walls 4 and 6 are formed with flaps or anges 7 and 8 respectively, which are adapted to be folded into overlapping relation with the adjacent edge portions of the walls 5 and 3 respectively, and detachably connected therewith by means of locks or fastening devices 9 which are provided upon said walls 5 and 3 for engagement with slotted lugs 10 provided upon said flaps. At the upper side of the case is provided a suitable handle 11 whereby the same may be carried.
specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. t, 1919.
In use the case is adapted to accommodate a plurality of books of wall paper which are adapted to snugly fit therein, said books being indicated at 12, 13, and 14. One edge of the book 12 is rigidly secured to the wall 3 of section 1 by means oi rivets 15, the corresponding edge ot the book 14 being rigidly secured to the wall 5 of section 2 by means of rivets 16. The book 13 rests loosely between the books 12 and 14 so as to permit of complete removal or detachment oi the same from the case.
With the construction set forth it will be seen, that the books 12 and 14 will be permanently connected to the sides of the case so as to prevent substitution of other books therefor. The construction is such, however, that the permanent fastening of said books to the walls of the case, does not in any way interfere with the ready display of the sample leaves of wall paper, inasmuch as upon detachment of said sections through manipulation of the locks or fastenings 9, the books 12 and 14 will be readily accessible, the sections of the case being connected with the back of said books where the same will form no obstruction to the free turning of the leaves. The case also serves to effectively protect the leaves of the book so as to prevent bending, tearing, or otherwise injuring the same, such as otherwise results in the .case of wall paper sample books in which the leaves are entirely unprotected.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I therefore do not wish to be limited to the preoise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure Letters Patent is:
1. A wall paper sample case, comprising a substantially rectangular body open at both ends, and consisting of top, bottom and side walls, said body being formed of two parts, each consisting of a plurality of hingedly connected sections; and means for detachably connecting said parts together, substantially as described.
2. A wall paper sample case, comprising Walls, said body consisting of two parts, one of which consists of a side and the top Wall,
and the other of. which consists of a side andv the bottom Wall, the meeting portions of said parts being overlapped; -and means for vdettchaibly connecting said meeting'V `portions of said parts, siibstantiallyv as described. Y
v3. A Wall aper sample case comprising a substantial y rectangular body openA at both ends, and consisting of top, bottom zuid side Walls, said body consisting of two parts, one of which consists of :t side und the top Wall, and the other of which consists of :i side and the bottom wall; und means for detachably connecting said parts together, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this speciiczttion in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
ROBERT D. BALDWIN.
