Description

'Patented J an. 7, 1919.
WILLIAM It. UHLEMANN, or CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
LENS-MOUNT.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, WILLIAM R. UHLE- MANN, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lens-Mounts, of which the following a specification. j
This invention relates to `mea-ns for attaching the rimless lenses of eyeglasses and the like to the intermediate clip members on the ends of `the connecting bridge or other usual part of the article, and has for its oblect: J llo provide a simple and efficient structural formation and'v association of parts wherein an effective locking of a lens to its carrying clip is effected in a ready and substantial manner, with the entire absence of the usual screw fastenings, and with which ready detachment can be effected when so required, all as will hereinafter more fully appear.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1, is a detail side elevation illustrating the present invention applied to a portion of a lens and lens mount.
Fig. 2, is a detail section on line X2-X2, Fig. 1, illustrating the preferred form of the present invention.
Fig. 3 is a similar view of a modified form of the invention. i
Like reference numerals indicate` like parts in the diHerent views.
Referring to the drawing, 1 designates a portion of an eyeglass lens, 2 a portion of the nose bridge or like parts of a mounting, and 3 the intermediate clip or yoke, fixedly attached 'to an end of the bridge 2, with .its jaws adapted to embrace the lens 1, as usual in eyeglass mountings.
In the preferred form of the present 1nvention, as shown in Fig. 1 the clip or yoke 3 aforesaid is provided with a resilient tongue 4t adapted for bearing against the edge of the lens 1, to permit limited roeking movement of said lens under accidental stresses, as set forth in detail 1n my prior Patent No. 933,502, dated September 7th, 1909. ln the present structure the resilient tongue 4c serves the further purpose of maintaining the fastening of the structure in close and accurate engagement. j
ln the structure illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, the side members or jaws of the aforesaid clip or yoke 3 are of a counterpart forma- Speccation of Letters Patent.

tion, and each jaw or member is formed with a slot 5 extending from near its base to its free end, and providing a receiving and guiding space for the resilient tongue now to be described.
o` designates the resilientlocking tongue or finger above referred to, arranged in the slot 5 aforesaid, and fixedly secured at one end, to the end wall of the slot -5 next adjacent to the base of the clip or yoke 3, and
preferably in an integral manner as shown. The other end of the tongue or finger 6 is free, and is provided with an inclined dog or detent 7 adapted to engage in the usual hole or orifice 8 adjacent to the margin of in the orifice 8` when it is desired to detach the lens 1 for repair or replacement.
In the modified structure illustrated in Fig. 3, c-nly one jaw or member of the clip or yoke 3 is formed in the manner above described, the companion and opposed jaw or member having a solid formation, which, at the judgment of the constructor, may have a fixed barb or detent 10 for engagement in theend portion of the orifice 8, opposite to the end portion of such orifice with which. the resiliently carried detent 7 has engagement. When the barby or detent 10 as aforesaid, is employed. allowance will be provided between the clip jaws or members to permit of lateral movement of the lens 1 in sliding into locking engagement with said barb or detent 10.
In the operation of effecting an engagement' of the present construction the lens 1 is forced between the jaws of the clip 3, and in its passage between said jaws forces the resilient tongues 6 apart until the lens orifice 8 comes into alinement with the detents 7, when the same will move into the required locking engagement of the parts.
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a lens mount, a yoke shape lens clip, a side member of which is formed with a slot, andla linger resiliently associated with said clip and arranged in said slot, and a locking detent carried by said linger and adapted for locking engagement in an orice of the'lens, substantially as set forth.
2. In a lens mount, a yoke shape lens clip, and a linger resiliently associated With said clip and having a locking detent adapted for a locking engagement in an orice of a lens and anoperatinof eye in adjacent relation to said detent, substantially as set f.orth. ,3. In a lens-mount, a yoke shape lens elip, one jaw of which is formed with a slot and a resiliently actuated finger arranged in said slot and having a locking detent adapted for locking engagement in an oriliee of alens,
substantially as set forth.
Y 4. Ina lens mount, a yoke shape lens clip, lonejaW of which isformed with a slot and a resiliently actuated linger arranged in said slot and having a locking detent adapted for locking engagement in a lockingy oriliee of a lens and an operatin eye in adjacent relation Yto said detent, su stantially as set forth. Y
5. Ina lens mount, a yoke shape lens clip the `side members of YWhich areV formed With slots, and opposed lingers resiliently associated with the opposed jaivs of said clip and arranged in said slots and locking detent's adapted for engagement in an oriliee Vof a lens, substantially as setforth.
6. In a lens mount, a yoke shape lens clip,
*andi opposed fingers resiliently associated With the opposedjaws of said clip and having locking `detents adapted for engagement inan orifice of a lens and operating eyes in adjacent relation to said detents, substantially as set forth. Y
''In a lens mount, a yoke shape clip the jaws Aof Which are formed with slots, and
Y opposed resiliently actuated lingers arranged in'said slots and having locking detents Vadapted for locking engagements in an orilice of a lens, substantially as set forth` i topiesV ofv this patent may be obtained for 8. In a lens mount, a yoke shape eli p the jaws of which are formed with slots, and opposed resiliently actuated lingers arranged in said slots and having locking detents adapted for locking engagement in an oriliee of a lens and operating eyes in adjacent relation to said detente, substantially as set forth.
9. In a lens mount, a yoke shape lens clip, a resilient linger carried by said clip and adapted for bearing engagement against the edge of a lens, and a linger resiliently associated With said clip and having a locking detent adapted for locking engagement in an oriliee of a lens, substantially as set forth.
l0. In a lens mount, a yoke shape lens clip a resilient linger carried by said (flip and adapted for bearing engagement against the edgeof a lens, and a linger resiliently associated With said clip and having a locking detent adapted for locking engagement in an orifice .of a lens and an operating eye in adjacent relation to said detent, substantially as set forth.
l1. -In a lens mount, a yoke shape clip, a resilient linger carried by said clip and adapted for bearing engagements against the edge of a lens, and opposed lingers resiliently associated with the opposed j aws of said clip and having locking detents adapted for engagement in an orifice of a lens, substantially as set forth.
