, UNITED sures PATENTQFMCE- ALFRED HOFFMAN AND LEM HENRY methamphetamine, co onano.
sraAYEa arraon vrnn'ri roii,iaooK i niiits To all whom it may concern Be it known that. we, ALFR D HOFFMAN and LEM HENRY HILEMAN citizens of the United States, residing at lleadville, in the county of Lake and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Sprayer Attachments for tools Drills, of which the following is a speeification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to rock drills, and more particularly to an attachment for laying the dust caused by the operation of a rock drill.
The general object of the invention is to provide a device to be used in connection with a rock drill whereby to prevent the escape of dust from the drill hole.
A further object is to provide an attachment of this character in the form of a sprayer adapted to surround the well drill and provided with means whereby it may be supported at the mouth of the drill hole so as {o prevent the escape of dust from the drill 1ole. 1
Other objects will appear in the course of the following description.
Our inventlon is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
til]
Figure 1 is an elevation of my improved spraying attachment, attached to a drill, t e wall of the drill hole being in section;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the attachment;
Fig. 3 i a transverse sectional view thereof; and i Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the attachment.
Referring to these drawings, it will be seen that my attachment comprises a body 10 which is formed to embrace, or partially surround, the shank of a rock drill, this body being'formed with a duct 11 which 1s sen1icircular in form and conforms to the shape of the body and is provided with an inlet duct 12 extending axially through a nipple 13. The duct 11 opens upon the inner face of the body 10 by a plurality of perforations it. A supply pipe 15 is connected to the nipple 13, this supply pipe in turn being connected to the usual siphon valve 16 which is attached to the rock drilling machine and which is used with air to draw water by means of a pipe 17 from any suitable source of supply through a strainer 18. The siphon valve, the strainer and other allied parts rm 0 pa t i. r. n e tion,

Applicationfiled May 18, 1918. Serial No. 235,319.
The body 10 at opposite sides is formed w th longltudinally extending recesses 19 wherein are disposed springs 20, the springs being held in place by means of set screws 21. These springs are transversely curved so as to approximate the curvature of the wall of the hole being drilled.
In the use of this invention the sprayer 10 is disposed to loosely surround the shank of the drill and ismounted at the entrance of the drill hole with the springs 20 engaging the walls of the drill hole and holding the sprayer in place. As the drill is reclprocated, water will be ejected in a fine spray from the perforations 11 and this will lay the dust and prevent the dust from being discharged from the drill hole. The springs will hold the sprayer in place and the sprayer is sufficiently large to permit the drill to be freely reciprocated. Preferably the sprayer is approximately horse-shoe shaped so that it may be slipped over the drill on one side thereof without the necessity of inserting the drill through the sprayer.
Having described our invention, what we claim is:
1, A spraying attachment for rock drills conuirising a body adapted to loosely embrace the drill and having means whereby it may be connected to a source of water, the body being provided with perforations on its inside face discharging toward the drill and the body having an outside diameter greater than the greatest diameter of the drill, and springs mounted upon the body and projecting therefrom adapted to engage the wall of the drill hole to hold the body in place at the mouth of the drill hole.
2. An attachment of the character de scribed comprising a U-shaped body adapted to embrace a drill and be disposed at the mouth of a drill hole and having a duet disposed within the body and formed with perforatio-ns discharging from the inner face of the body and having a nipple whereby it may be connected to a source of water under oressure, and springs mounted upon the body to engage the wall of the drill hole and hold the body in place. a
3. A device of the character described comprising an approximately U-shaped body adapted to be disposed at the mouth of the. drill hole and embrace a drill, the body being formed with a duct having perforations discharging upon the inneinface of the In testimony whereof we hereunto afiix our body and having a nipple with which the signatures in the presence of two Witnesses. 10 duct is connected, the body on opposite sides 7 1 being formed with s10ts, a nd holding springs \Y disposed in said slots and adapted to engage J L i l the wall of the drill hole and having set Witnesses:
screws for holding said springs in adjusted VERNA L. SHUPP,
