at diametrically opposite points, to one side of a twoarmed lever 83 which is `secured to the axle by a suitable kev so as to rotate the4 axle and so as to hold the axle against rotation when the lever is locked. Each'dog 81 is normally held disengaged `from the ratchet 80 by a spring 85 between the dog and the lever 83. Stops 86 on the lever 83 limit the outward movementl of the dogs by springs 85. Each dog is provided with an inwardly extending stud 87 which is adapted to enter a segmental `groove 88 formed in an extension of bracket 28 to successively hold the dogs in. engagementwith the ratchet until la full half revolution has been imparted to lever 83 and thegcrank axle. Lever 83 isrnormally locked against rotation to lock the crank-axleby a locking bolt 89 which is normally and yieldingly held in operative position and in'one of the holes 97 on lever 83- which is secured to the l axle. Bolt 89 is U-shaped and comprises a4 member 92 which is also guided in extension 91 and slidable therein. A controlling-lever '94 for shifting the dogs 81 into engagement with the ratchet wheel and for prelm'nnarily releasin the lock 89 is pivoted to extension 91 by a olt 95 and is provided with a cam 96 which is adapted lto engage arm 92 of bolt 89 to withdraw the bolt from holes 97 in lever 83. In tractor-plowing, it sometimes becomes necessary to raise or lower the plow-carrying structure when the plow is not being pulled forwardly, and the primary object of the present invention is to provide a simple device whereby thls may be eiected from a vConvenient pomt. For this purpose, porvtion 23 of the crank-axle is extended beyondv .the hub of the land wheel and a collar 104 is rigidly secured to the axle outside of the This collar is provided with a socket 105 which extends through the collar andy is adapted to receive from either end a removable lever or bar 106 which may be conveniently carried on the tractor when not in use. To operate the crank-axle manually, it is only necessary to release the locking pin 89 so that the lever 83 .will be free to rotate andthen the bar 106 can be rotated to swin the crank-axle 24 fromone of its alternative positions to the other. The socket 105 extends horizontally, so that the bar-106 will ,be free to move through the upper segment of a circle and through a half revolution.
The invent-ion exemplifies an `improved plow in which a crank-axle lwhich is connected to operate the plow-carrying structure, is provided with a socket for a removable lever which can be operated fromthe land-side of the plow toshift it from one of its alternative positions to the other when the plow is stationary or any time that the power-lift should become inoperative.
The invention is not to be understood as restricted to the details set forth, since these may be modified within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from p thespirit and scope of the invention. 4
