`Be it known that we, THOMAS-N. CAI-ULL and JAMES T. TUaNEn,citizens of the United States, and residents tof Round Mountain, in the county ofk N Iel and Statef'ofl Nevada, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in N onRefillable Bottles, Vof which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to'bottles, or other receptacles having cylindrical outlet portions, and has more particular reference to an attachmenty fory bottles or receptacles of this naturey to prevent refilling of the same, after the contentshave beenremoved therefrom.-
It is anobject of the present `inventionto provide a non-reiillable attachment forb'ottles and the like which requires but relatively slight modifications in the formation of the bottle neck. n v Y The invention further aims at the provision of an attachment of this character which comprises relatively few partslwhich may be easily and economically manufactured and assembled, and which when in place will vnot :interfere with the pouring out of thel contentsofthe bottle, and, which will positively prevent the rellingl of the bottle. l y y A still further object of thev present invention is to provide an attachment in the form of a plug adaptedto be fitted into the neck of a. bottle, and to provide a novelseeuring means for holding the plug positively in the bottle and preventing the removal thereof when once in position.

Referring to these drawings, wherein like parts are designatedf'by similar characters of reference throughoutthe several views, A designates a bottle of usual form provided with a neck'B providednearit's'upper end with an upwardly facing shoulder C upon which is seated a packing ring D, of cork or the like, which is fitted in the upper end .of the neck'B and adapted tol'bind about the depending portion of a glass stopper'or plug E, inthe usual manner.

The plug 18 is held in place by means of an expansible locking ring 19 Which is seated in an annular groove 2O t'ornied in the outer tace ot' the plug 18 adjacent to its outer extremity. The bottle neck B is provided, at a point a short distance inwardly from the shoulder C, with an annular groove or chan nel 21 into Which the locking ring 19 is adapted to expand for firmly locking and securing the plug 18 Within the neck ot' the bottle.
The plug 18 is provided With an outer end passage 22 which extends longitudinally in the outer end ofthe plug and opens through the end of the same. A second longitudinally extending passage 23 is formed in the inner end of the plug and opens through the same into the bottle A, the passage 23 being of greater diameter than the passage 22 and constituting a valve chamber. The inner end of the chamber 23 is constricted or reduced in diameter to provide a valve seat 2lupon which a valve 25 is adapted to seat, the valve 25 being formed of glass and being preferably of cylindrical or ball construction. The adjacent ends of the passages 22 and 28, at the intermediate portion of the plug` 18, are closed from intercommunication With each other by means of a iveb 26 ivhich constitutes the intermediate portion of the plug. rlhe passages, however, lead into laterally extending ports or exits 27 and 28, Jfor the passages 22 and 28 respectively. From Fig. 8, particularly, it ivill be noted that the ports 27 and 28 open through substantially the saine side ot the lug 18 and are oitset peripherally but a slight distance one troni the other. r1`he ports 27 and 28 are closed from direct coinmunication with each other by means of a radiallyextending iveb or partition 29. In Fig. 1, the ports 2T and 28 are shown as in slightly overlapping relation, and the partition 29 which separates these ports extends obliquely tothe longitudinal 'axis of' the plug 18 from one side ot' the port 28 outwardly to the opposite side of the port 27. The cap 32 is provided with a central opening 33 through which the stopper may be inserted when forced into the bottle neck toseal the contents thereof. The inner marginal edge of the cap 32 overlaps the packing ring D and prevents the removal thereot,=the packing ring D being seated upon the shoulder AC and engaging against the outer end of the plug 18?L to hold the same lirnily in the bottle neck B2, and from displacement trom the shoulder 15.
It vvill be noted that should stopper'E be removed, and the cork packingring D be cutl or otherwise mutilated and removed, the opening 83 in cap 32 is of such size that cannot be removed, thus preventing` the refilling of the bottle.

end of the bottle neck B3, and the cap 32 is provided therein with a disk 34 o'f any suitable material, such as cork to seal plug 18, and to provide a cushion for the cap 32, adapted to seat upon the outer end of the bottle neck and the plug, and to securely hold the plug from displacement from the bottle neck. The disk 34 is suitably apertured to receive the stopper F therethrough for engagement directly in the outer passage 22 of the plug. It will be noted that the inner marginal edge of the cap 32 is substantially flush with the inner marginal edge of the disk 34, and that both 'or the same lap over upon the end of the plug 18a to firmly hold the plug in position.
From the above, it will be readily understood that the plug attachment and the securing means therefor, of this invention, may be readily applied to bottle necks of usual construction with but slight additions or variations to the same, and that the usual Stoppers, caps and the like for sealing the bottles may be employed.

Whilein this position, the contents of the bottle is permitted to ow outwardly through the inport 28 past the valve 25 around the plug 18 in the groove 30, and outwardly through the port 27 and outer passage 22.
When the bottle is turned into upright position for filling, as shown in Fig. l, any liquid poured downwardly into the neck B of the bottle will pass through the opening' 22, port 27, and into the groove 30. The' fluid will also pass through the port 28 into the lower passage 23, but will be held therein and from further passage through the bottle neck by the valve 25 which is seated on the valve seat 24. As the valve 25 is of glass, or other relatively heavy mawhen the stopper E is re-.
terial, it will not'oat in the liquid and will provide an effectual seal to prevent the refilling of the bottle A. The substantially annular groove 30 and the partition 29 effectively prevent the introduction of a wire or other device for unseating the valve 25.
It is of course understood that various changes and modiications may be made in the details of construction of the abovespecifically described part of this device without departing from the spirit of the invention, and being restricted only by the scope of the following claim.
We claim:
In a non-refllable bottle, the combination with a bottle and neck therefor having an annular shoulder formed near the inner end of the neck, of a plug inserted in the said neck and having its inner lower end reduced in diameter, a cork collar mounted about said reduced end and resting upon said shoulder, said plug provided with an annular peripheral groove intermediate its ends, the reduced end of said plug provided with a longitudinal central bore openingv out into a valve chamber in said plug and below said peripheral groove, a ball valve positioned in said valve chamber, having an angular 'opening therein communicating with said valve chamber and peripheral groove, the upper end of said plug provided with bore having its inner end curving outwardly and communicating with said peripheral groove to one side of the communication between the groove and said angular opening, and a partition traversing the groove between said angular opening and the lower outwardly curving end of said bore, and a pin extending diagonally through said valve seat near said angular opening to prevent passage of said ball valve through the angular opening.
