STEINER, a 'citizen of the United States, resident of Salt Lake City, count of Salt Lake, State of Utah, have invente certain new and useful Improvements in Towel- Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to cabinets for han-' dling or dispensing a roller towel and the object of the invention is to provide means. for automatically checking the delivery or feed of the towel when a certain predetermined length has been unrolled.

A further object is to provide a delivering mechanism of simple construction and one which is easily get out of order.

The invention consists generally in various constructions and combinations, all as hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.

In the drawing, 2 represents a cabinet of suitable construction, open at the top and the front except for a panel 3 which, closes the lower portion of the cabinet at the front thereof. 4 represents a roll having bearings in vertical slots 5 in the side walls of the cabinet and on which the roller towel 6 is wound at the laundry. This may be termed the delivery roll on which the clean towel is taken from the laundry to the cabinet. 7 is a similarroll mounted in slots 8 in'the side wall of the cabinet and on this roll 7 the soiled-towel is wound until it-is entirely transferred from the roll 4't0 the roll 7. The roll 7 is then removed from the cabinet and returned to the laundry, whilethe roll may be substituted for the roll 7,

Serial No. 213,152." e I for revolving said roll and unwinding the towel therefrom; '10 is an idle roll mounted in brackets-11 on the side walls of the cabinet and driven by a cross belt 12 from the roll 9 so that the rolls 4 and 10 will revolve 'inthe same direction, the strip of toweling 10 and being drawn taut thereby between said roll and the roll 4. A roll 13 is mounted below the roll 7 and is in frictional engagement with the toweling wound on the roll 7 and has the same iameter as the drive roll 9, so they will operate at the same speed and is driven therefrom by a belt 14. A ratchet wheel 15 is mounted on the shaft of the roll 9 and a dog 16 engages this ratchet and prevents backward revolution of the feed roll. When the roll 9 is revolved, its movement will be transferred through the belt 14m the roll 13 to revolve it also and the roll 7 to wind up the soiled towel thereon.

It is desirable in a device of this kind to provide means to prevent the delivery roll from being revolved more than a predetermined distance each time the device is used and thereby prevent a greater length of towel being unwound than is necessary for the use of a single'person. I therefore pr0-' vide a guide 17 casing havin with a stop on the outer side wall of the g a flange 18 that is provided or shoulder 19 at one point in A cam 20 is secured to the cabinet within said guide and through which cam the shaft 21 of the drive roll proje'cts. A crank 22 is provided with a longitudinal slot 23 to receive a flattened end section on the shaft 21 and is slidable thereon and the outer end of the crank has a handle 24 provided .with an eXtension'or stud 25 which, when the crank is raised, will contact with the periphery of the cam and ride thereon as the crank is revolved. When near the end of its revolution the peripheral surface of the cam engaging the pin 25 will .i direct it---'aga inst the stop 19 and thereupon further movement of the crank and the feed roll will be arrestedand to continue the revolution of the feed roll it will'be necessary to raise the crank, moving it endwise on the shaft 21 until the stud 2-5 clears the stop 19 and again contacts with the periphe of the cam, when the revolution of the fee roll will be repeated and another section of toweling unwound from the delivery roll. In this way I am able 'to regulate the feed of the roller towel without adding materially to the cost of the cabinet or making it any more difiicult of operation.

I claim as my invention:

1. The combination, with a cabinet, of a roll mounted therein and on which the clean towel is Wound, a feed roll mounted in said cabinet to contact with the towel roll and exert a pushing action thereon to revolve said roll and unwind the towel when said feed roll is operated, a cam mounted on the i wall of said cabinet, the shaft of said'feed roll-projecting through said cam, a crank mounted on said shaft to' slide transversely thereof and having a stud to ride on the periphery of said cam and a stop against which said stud is directed by said cam at one point in the revolution of said crank.

2. The combination, with a cabinet, of a roll mounted therein whereon a clean towel is wound, a feed roll mounted to contact .With said towel and exert a pushing action thereon to unwind it from said roll, a cam mounted on said cabinet and through which the shaft of said feed roll projects, a flange encircling said cam and having a shoulder formed therein opposite the high point of said cam and a crank mounted for movement laterally of said feed roll shaft and having a stud to ride on said cam and be directed thereby against said shoulder at one point in the revolution of said crank.

3; The combination, with a cabinet, of a pair of rolls mounted therein for quick insertion and removal, one of said rolls having a clean towel Wound thereon at the laundry, the other roll being mounted to receive the soiled towel as it is unwound and used from said first named roll, a feed roll mounted to contact with said towel delivery roll'and exert a pushing-action on the towel to revolve said roll and unwind the clean.
