1 Yanni) BROWN, or CLINTON, ILLINOIS. f
BATH-Bansin.
A fTo all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that IQREED BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Clinton,
in the county of Dewitt and State of Illi-y nois,-have 'invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bath-Brushes, of which the following is a specification', reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This inventionA `relates *to Y an -improved bath brush and has for its primary object to provide a device of the above'character embodying abrush head, and Ysimple' andf effective means for easily and quickly clampinga wash cloth tosaid head.
It is another and morepar-ticular object y of the invention to provide relativ-ely movable clamping members extending around v the ends of the brush head, the wash cloth being adapted to be disposed over one face Y of the head and between the clamping members and the ends of the head, and an element pivotally mounted upon the brush head and operatively connected to said members to simultaneously move the Ysame into clamping engagement with the cloth.
It is also an additional object of my invention to provide a device of the above character which is simple and durable in its construction, highly eflicient yand serviceable in practical use, and capable of manufacture at relatively small c ost.
With the above and other objects in view, `my invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more, Yfu ly described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the preferred embodiment of my improved bath brush;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation showing the clamping members in their inoperative positions; and n Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Referring in detail to the drawing, 5 designates a head block, to one face of which a slab or plate 6 of wood, aluminum, or other non-corrosive metal is permanently secured. This plate is of slightly greater dimensions than the block 5 and projects slightly beyond the end and side faces of `said block.

edges -9 of :als bil-ugh' rami@ s, said trash handlebeingiof any desired length and suit? "members extend longitudinally` along the `side'face's ofthe blockI and in relatively opfposite directions.
These arms are movable through suitable guide elements indicated at 12, which arefixed to opposite sides of dis# p the head block.
A wire bail 13 has its end portions vposed upon opposite sides yof the head block and'pivotally mounted upon the studs orr screws 14 which are fixed-in the block. i To 'the ends of this bail, the corresponding terminals` of vthe clamping kmembers lOwhch are disposed upon the same side of the blockk 5, are pivotally connected, asl at 15, on rela.-
tively opposite sides of the pivot 111 and in spaced relation thereto.` ,s
'ln the use 4of he device, the wash cloth is suitably "folded vand ldisposed over the face ofthe slab orplate' 6, the end portionsL of the cloth being inserted between the inf termediate portions of the clamping members 10 and the end faces of the block 5. The wire bail 13 is then swun downwardly from they position shown in ig. k2 -of the drawing to the position illustrated inFiga 1, whereby the clamping members 10 are moved'in relatively opposite directions and v inwardly toward "the ends of the head block c 5. Thus, these members are engaged with the wash cloth and tightly clamp the same against the ends of the block. After using" the device, the wash cloth may be readily removed by simply forcing the wire bail 13 upwardly to extend the clamping kmemjbers 10 in relatively opposite directions on the block. By means of the presentinven`- tion, a single one of the brush headswith the clamping device thereon may 'be provided and used by rall members of the family who will supply their individual wash cloths. The-brush head may, of course, be made of various sizes, as well as in other forms than that shown in the drawing. `lrI lhe form, construction and relative arrangement of the several parts of the clamping .device for the wash cloth may also be considerably modified and it will, therefore, be understood that While I have'herein shown and described the preferred construction and arrangement of the several parts, the same are susceptible of many minor changes and I, therefore, reserve the privilegeof adopting all such legitimate. alterations as may be fairly embodied Within the Aspirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus full described my invention, what I desire to c aim and. secure by Letters Patent is: f K v The combination With a brush head, of a U-shaped member pivotally mounted adjacent its ends upon the opposite sides ofthe head, U-shaped clamping rods having arallel arms slidably mounted upon the sides of the brush head, the `arms of one clamping member being disposed out of longitudinal rvrods 'being adapte alinement With the arms of the other clamping member, the arms yof the respective clamping members being pivotally connected at their terminals `to the ends of said U-shaped member at opposite sides of its pivots, the medial ortions of said clamping to engage and clamp a cloth against the ends of the brush head at points adjacent the opposite side faces of said head, and `the medial portion of said U-shaped member when the rods are in their effective clamping` position-s extending across one end of the head and friction-ally held upon the cloth engaged thereon.
