By the arrangement above described the cap 13 is maintained in what might be termed a floating position while being at the same time connected to the base. The cap I3 is maintained separated from the base. and with it the contact 15, by means ofthe spring 2T. but whenever pressure is applied to the top of the eap the contact. 15 will be moved toward the contact 3 and the circuit thereb closed. The button or circuit-closer above described may be secured in any position upon the car or other device on which it is desired to be mounted. For securing it on a dat base I provide a second or sub-base 29 on which the base 1 rests. These two bases are placed in position wherever it is desired and a stir rup having a central 'opening large enough to slip over the cap and upper part ofthe base but small enough to prevent the shoulder 30 of the base from passing therethrough is placed in position, this stirrup being provided with laterally extending ears 31 hav,- ing down-turned flangesV 32, which downs turned flanges cover the sub-base 29. Screw openings 33 are provided in the stirrup for the reception of screws to hold the stirrup in position. This stirrup, therefore, forms a clamping member for holding the 'base in position. l
It will be noted that the base at 34 is reduced in diameter. This reduction is made for the purpose, where it is desired. oi seatmg the base in its support, an openinglarge enough for the reducedportion 34- of the base beingI provided to receive the same.
When the base is mounted in this position the. sub-base 29 will be .dispensed with and the stirrup, ot course, shortened accordingly.
In Fig. (i I have illustrated a modification of my invention. lhen it is desired to seat or place the circuit-closing device in the center of the steering post of an automobile it is only necessary to connect one wire'of the circuit to the one terminal ot' the circuitcloser` the other, terminal being grounded. ln order to seat the device in the steering post the shoulder 30 of the base is left oil', so that the base will be straight from top to bottom and thereby readilyseat into the steering post. Instead of lproviding the plate 11 with a binding post, such as 12a, the plate l1 is provided with an angular upturned extension 35 seated in a recess 36 in the base and provided with a screw-opening 37. The base is seated in the top of the steering post and a screw passed through the steering post and engaging in the opening 37. thereby not only locking the circuitcloser in position but also forming a ground connection with this terminal of the circuit-closer.

The combination with an insulating base,of an annular contact plate mounted on said base and projecting above the su'rface. thereof, a terminal plate mounted on the opposite face of said base, means electrically and mechanically connecting said contact plate and terminal plate together, a locking plate mounted in a recess in the top of said base and within the periphery of said contact plate, a terminal plate on the rear tace of-said base and means for electrically and mechanically connecting said terminal plate and locking plate together, a cap above said base, a contact plate on said cap cooperating with the contact plate on the base, a center post ou said cap loosely extending through an opening in said locking plate, a holding member on said post beneath said locking plate to prevent the separation of the cap and base, and a spring tending-to separate said cap and base.

The combination with an insulating base, of an annular contact plate mounted thereon, a. locking plate mounted on said base having an opening.r therein, a cap above said base, a center post on said cap loosely extending through an opening in said locking plate and having means on its end for preventing its being separated from said locking plate, a contact plate on the under side of said cap having a truncated portion snugly fitting the post, and a spring tending to separate said cap from said post.
3. The combination with an insulatin base, of an annular contact plate mounted thereon, a llocking plate mounted 0n said base, a. cap for said base, a center post on said cap loosely extending through an open-- ing in said locking plate, a contact plate on the under side of said cap having a truncated portion snugly fitting said post, a washer on the end of said post beneath said locking plate holding said contact, plate in position on the cap and preventing the separation of the cap from the base, and a coiled spring tending to separate said cap from the base.

The combination with an insulating base, of a contact plate mounted on said base and having an annular contact surface extending above the top of said base, a central recess in said base, a locking plate maintained on said base above said recess and having a central opening therein, a cap, a contact plate mounted on the under side of said cap having an annular cont-act surface, a tubular center post on said cap extending through the opening on said locking plate, a. collar on the lower end of'the post of greater diameter than the opening in thc plate, and a coiled springin the post tending to separate the cap from the base.
