To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ARTHUR C. BERNAU,

a citizen of the United States, residing at Kadoka, in the county of Stanley and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blotter and Scratch-Pad Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has as its object to provide a novel holder for scratch pads and blotters and it is one aim of the invention to so const'ruet the holder that the blotter and scratch pad may be readily removed therefrom and replaced whenever desired.

Another aim of the invention is to provide an article of this class which may be formed from a single integral sheet blank.

Another aim of the invention is to provide an article of this class which may be employed as an advertising medium and which will be sufliciently compact to permit of its being sent through the mails.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device embodying the present invention illustrating the manner in which the scratch pad is held by the device;

As before stated, the article embodying the present invention is formed from a single integral sheet blank and the body portion of this blank, indicated by the numeral 1, constitutes the back for both the blotter scratch pad. At one end the body 1 and is provided with an integral flap portion 2 having terminal tabs 3. The portion 2 is adapted to be folded over against that face of the body 1 against which the scratch pad is to be disposed and after the said portion has been folded over on the dot and dash lines shown in Fig. 5 of the drawings, the tabs 3 are folded in and secured in any suitable manner to the said face of the body 1. The article may be manufactured from cardboard. leather. sheet metal, or, in fact, any material suitable for the purpose and, of course, the manner in which the tabs 3 and other tabs to be presently described are secured in place will depend upon the nature of the material. \Vhen the portion 2 has been folded over and secured in the manner above described, a pocket 1- will be afforded at the end of the body 1 and this pocket receives one end of a scratch pad indicated by the numeral 5 and the leaves of the said pad are preferably perforated as at 6 close to the edge of the pocket or portion 2 so that the leaves may be torn otl without the necessity of disengaging the pad from the said pocket. In order to confine the corners of the pad at the other end thereof, the body 1 is formed at that end opposite the end at which the portion is located, with flaps 7 which are substantially triangular in outline and each of which is provided at its outer lateral edge with a tab 8. The flaps 7 are folded back against the face of the body 1 and the tabs 8 are folded under and secured to the said face of the body, thereby forming substantially triangular corner pockets 9 receiving the said corners of the scratch pad.

In order that the corners of a blotter may be engaged and held so as to support the blotter in position against the other face of the body 1, the said body 1 is formed at its lateral edges and at its four corners with flaps 10 each substantially of triangular form and provided with a tab 11 and these flaps are folded to lie against that face of the body 1 against which the body is to be disposed and held and the tabs 11 are folded under and secured in any suitable manner to the said face of the body. Thus a substantially triangular pocket 12 is provided at each corner of the body 1 and these pockets receive the corners of one or more blotters 18. It will here be noted that the free ends of the attaching tabs of the side and end flaps are inclined in the direction of and intersect the adjacent corners of the body portion 1 so as to permit the flaps to be folded on opposite sides of the body portion or sheet with the attaching tabs thereof glued to the surface of said body portion without producing any surplus material. at the corners of the pad or buckling of the tabs. The pockets thus formed will have a tendency to frictionally engage the pad and blotter, respectively, as best shown in Fig. 4; of the drawings. It will further be noted that the transverse end flap is formed integral with the body portion and is of the same length as the width of the body poro the adjacent corners 11-1) having attaching tion or sheet and is of substantially the same width as the width of the adjacent side flaps. The attaching tabs of the transverse end flap and the adjacent side flaps are also inclined in the direction of the adjacent corners of the sheet or body portion, as shown. It will be understood, of course, that a calendar may be substituted for the blotter or for the pad and that any type of scratch pad may be employed in connection with the article.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

l. A device of the class described com- 5 prising a reversible rectangular body portion having one end thereof provided With integral side and end flaps terminating in attaching tabs, the free ends of which are inclined in the direction of and intersect of the body portion, the side flaps being foldable on one side of the body portion with the attaching tabs secured to the face thereof to form pockets for a'scratch pad and the end flaps being foldable over the other side of the body portion with the tabs thereof secured to the face of said body portion to form pockets for a blotter, the other end of the body portion being provided with integral side flaps tabs and a single integral transverse end flap of the same length as the width of the body portion and provided scratch pad holder comprising a single substantially rectangular sheet of material having one end thereof provided with integral side and end flaps terminating in attaching tabs, the free ends of which are inclined in the direction of and intersect at the adjacent corners of the sheet, the other end of the sheet being provided with inte- .gral side flaps having attaching tabs, and a single integral transverse end flap of the same length as the width of the sheet and provided with end tabs, the inner ends of the tabs of the transverse end flap and the adjacent side flaps being inclined in the direction of the adjacent corners of said sheet.
