Description

T. A. EDISON.
Improvement in Printing-Telegraph's.-
N0.128,604. PatentedJu|y2,1 872.
01/: a N I I THOMAS A. EDISON, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN PRINTlNG- TELEGRAPHS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 128,604, dated July 2, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS A. EDISON, of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented an Improvement in Printing-Telegraphs; and the following is declared to be a correct description thereof.
This invention relates to combining with the printing-lever an air-cushion that acts as a detainer to the printing mechanism so as to prevent it operating, except after the typewheel has been set by the pulsations in the mainline, and the circuit is kept closed while the air-cushion is sufficiently displaced to permit the impression.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a plan, and Fig. 2 an elevation, of this improvement.
The type-wheel magnet a and printing magnet I) are in the same electric circuit. The pulsations in the magnet a operate to set the type-wheel e by a step-by-step movement, but they do not move the impression-lever f sufficiently for printing, because the spring 9 is acting upon thesame, and the air-cushion in, the cylinder 70 formed between the piston and from the type-wheel.
I claim as my invention The air-cushion applied to and combined with the printing-lever and its magnet in a printing-telegraph instrument, in the manner and for the purposes specified.
Signed by me this 26th day of April, A. D. 1872.
.T. A. EDISON.
