COMB-CLEANING DEVICE.
Application filed March 30, 1918.
' To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY BLUM, a cit-izen of Russia residing at J ohnstown, in the county ofCambria and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Comb-Cleaning Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in comb cleaning devices and the primary object of the invention is to pro- "oughly cleansing a comb by brushing the same and running a plurality of threads between the teeth thereof.
Another object of the invention is to provide a comb cleaning device of this character which includes a rotatable brush adapted for engagement with one side of a comb and a spring roller carried adjacent the brush, and having a plurality of threads that run beneath the same and are adapted to be moved back and forth between the teeth of the comb to thoroughly cleanse the same. This device is adapted to be hooked on a wall or the like at one end, and the threads that are wound on the spring roller move back and forth from a handle at the other end thereof between the teeth of the comb.
A further object of the invention is to pro vide a device of this character which is easily and simply constructed, inexpensive to manufacture and one which will be very efficient in operation.
With these and numerous other objects in view, my invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will be herein referred to and more particularly pointed out in the specification and claims.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the device,
Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the roller and brush and supporting frame, and
Specification of Letters Patent.

attached to a wall or the like. Rotatably mounted between. the sides of the frame is a spring roller 9 which is provided with gears 10 at the opposite ends thereof adapted to intermesh with the gears 3 of the brush 2. This spring roller is of the conventional type so that-when the same is wound in one direction it will tend to spring back when released.
Secured to the spring roller and wound around the same are a plurality of threads 11 which have their inner ends connected by a transverse strip 12 that is secured to the periphery of the roller 9. These threads are adapted to extend along the bottom of the frame 1 and beneath the brush and conse quently between the teeth of the comb that is secured in said frame, the outer ends of the threads being connected by a transverse strip 13 that is provided with a looped handle 14 thereon so that it may be gripped to move the threads back and forth.
In operation, when a comb is positioned within the main frame 1 and held by the bent sides 5 thereof, it will be disposed adjacent and in connection with the rotatable brush 2. The threads 11 are normally wound on the spring holder 9 and to clean the comb, the outer ends 14 of the threads are grasped, and pulled outwardly, the device being previously secured to a wall or the like by the loop 8. This outward movement will be against the tension of the spring roller and the threads will be moved between the teeth of the comb to cleanse the same. Further, rotation of the roller will through the intergear connection therewith of said roller with the brush, rotate the brush to additionally carry out the cleaning operation. When the threads have been unwound the desired distance, the outward pull is released and the spring roller will consequently rewind the threads thereon, drawing them back through the teeth of the comb. This operation may be continued until the comb has been entirely cleaned. The various parts of the device may be very easily taken apart, and the frames are so arranged that it is a very easy matter to clean the device. The strip 13 that connects the outer ends of the threads is preferably of cloth as is likewise the strip 12 that is secured to the spring roller 9.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings it is thought that a clear and comprehensive understanding of the construction, operation and advantages of my invention may be had, and While I have shown and described the device as embodying a specific structure, I desire that it be understood that such changes may be made in said structure as do not depart from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having fully described. my invention, that I claim is new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A device of the class described including a comb holding frame, a roller carried by said frame and disposed parallel with the comb, and a pin *ality of cleaning threads on the roller adapted to be moved back and forth between the teeth of the comb.
2. A device of the class described includ ing a comb holding frame, a spring roller carried by said frame and disposed parallel with the comb, and a plurality of cleaning threads on the roller adapted to be moved back and forth between the teeth of the comb.
3. A device of the class described including a comb holding frame, a spring roller and brush rotatably mounted in said frame in parallel spaced relation, the brush being disposed adjacent the side of a comb, connection between the roller and brush Whereby the same are rotated simultaneously, and a plurality of cleaning threads on the roller adapted to extend beneath the brush and between the teeth of the comb, said threads being pulled outwardly against ilie tension of the spring roller and adapted to be rerolled thereon when released.
4:. A device of the class described including a comb holding frame, a SiIIlUltEtDQOUSlY rotatable spring roller and brush rotatably mounted in said frame in parallel spaced relation, means for connecting said frame to a Wall or the like, and a plurality of cleaning threads carried by said roller and extending beneath the brush for engagement ijietween the teeth of the comb.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature hereto.
HARRY BLUM.
